When the iron is hot, you've got to strike. Whether it's putting the hurt on your friends, attacking in a crit, storming a time trial or bike portion of a tri' course, it's a sin to waste good legs. When the opportunity presents itself, you've got to make hay. Hit out a haymaker with the Reynolds Strike clincher wheelset. They're not only light and fast, but a bargain. These wheels utilize the same basic all-carbon build of the Reynolds Assault and Attack wheelsets, but in a 66mm depth to give you outstanding aerodynamics.

The lay-up of the carbon is a bit simpler than Reynolds' other 66mm deep clincher, the SDV66C. While this adds a touch of weight, it saves a mess of cost. And while the hubs are not as deluxe, and the skewers not as feathery, you still get all of the performance advantages and convenience of a full-carbon clincher with a wheel that slices through the wind like a machete.

The amazing thing is how much stronger this Reynolds wheel is than just about all other deep-dish clinchers, most of which have carbon in them. These rims can take up to 150psi of air pressure from the tires before blowing, which is more than most aluminum clinchers can say regardless of weight. Like all of their products, Reynolds developed the Strike as a wheel that can be ridden by everybody anywhere every day. They've even allayed the concern about braking by laying a scrim layer atop the braking surfaces for steadier, more consistent braking in all weather conditions.

Reynolds recommends using their plastic tire levers for mounting and removing tires. They state that other plastic levers can be used. But no metal tire levers please! The maximum pressure they recommend for the tires is 150 psi. In terms of brake pads, they recommend their own, Swiss Stop King Carbon pads and Kool Stop carbon-specific pads. They specifically do not recommend cork brake pads and using them will void the warranty. There is a two-year warranty on the wheels.

The Reynolds Strike has 66mm deep carbon clincher rims. There are 16 radial front spokes and 20 cross-2 drive and radial non-drive rear. The spokes are DT Aerolite for the radial spokes and DT Competition (14/15/14 gauge double-butted) for the crossed spokes. The nipples are internal and alloy and can be adjusted with a Reynolds-specific internal spoke wrench included with the wheels. Reynolds designs the hubs, and their bearings are easily serviceable. The skewers are all alloy. Rim strips come installed. The wheels come with Reynolds carbon-specific pads. The brake pads are Campagnolo and Shimano-specific, and they'll match your choice of Campagnolo or Shimano splined cassette body. The total wheelset weight is 1690g.
