The BR-7800 is Shimano's first-ever generation of Dura-Ace brakes built with functionally different front and rear calipers. They provide greater stopping power and an overall lighter weight than what you saw with the original BR-7700 Dual Pivot design. Their compact construction increases leverage and power, while reducing weight and size of caliper arms, while boosting rigidity in the front caliper by 25%. Increased rigidity, tighter tolerances and the striking reduction in flex are a big part of the BR-7800 story, but the new multi-condition brake pad compound is also worth emphasizing. The new pads are more powerful and durable in dry conditions, with outstanding durability in the wet as well. The powerful braking and pad wear in the wet, with no compromise to the power and durability you need in the dry, is a big improvement over the 9-speed era of brakes when the conventional wisdom was to ditch the stock pads in preference for Kool Stop salmon pads.
