It's only been in the last year or two that powermeter technology has gotten to the point where racing with one makes sense. It's not that power data isn't valuable ALL the time -- of course, it is. But until recently the gap in weight between a powermeter and the equivalent Dura-Ace or Record component was too darn much. Cycleops took a big step forward when they introduced their Power Tap SL, and they took an even bigger technological step with the wireless version know as the Power Tap SL 2.4.

The 2.4 is so light that Team Phonak used it throughout the 2006 Tour de France, even in the Alps and Pyrenees. But bike racers are incurable tinkerers, so of course the lightness of 2.4 wasn't good enough for them. Phonak convinced Cycleops to further hop up their 2.4's by replacing the stock bearings with ceramic bearings. It's no secret anymore that the use of ceramic bearings is the leading way to reduce mechanical resistance in your bike. The roundness and hardness of ceramic bearings allow them to spin with freedom unheard of in stainless bearings. Much data is out there attesting to this, and we won't bother reciting the facts here since it's common knowledge nowadays. Suffice it to say, though, that there's a reason why ProTour teams are loading up their bikes with ceramic bearings & pulleys with the same enthusiasm that F1 and Indy Car teams are retrofitting their cars to ceramics. Sure, they're expensive, but goodness gracious they make a difference. So, in short, Cycleops listened to the Phonak riders and they did the upgrade for them.

We've taken our cue from the Phonak service course by offering you the same upgrade -- a ceramic Power Tap 2.4. In our 2.4 ceramic hub we replace the 4 stock hub bearings with Grade 5 ceramic bearings. Grade 5 bearings are the finest available in the marketplace, round to a tolerance of 1 5-millionth of an inch. Otherwise, it's a stock Power Tap wireless 2.4. You get all of the technical benefits and accoutrements of the 2.4, including the Power Tuned Agent 7.0 Software (Mac and PC compatible), computer head and harness and the USB interface so you can download the data from your handlebar-mounted cpu to your desktop.

Available in 24, 28, and 32 hole drillings, in your choice of a Campagnolo or Shimano-compatible freehub.
