As much pleasure as owning a gorgeous, finely-tuned bike gives us, an unavoidable truth is that intense riding begets intense maintenance. Over time, what were once crisp shifts become soft; what was once feathery, one-finger braking becomes a full-hand affair; and in the place of silence come the myriad clicks, ticks, and pops that grate with the unique unignorability of your own child's cry.
No matter the brand, no matter the cost: Bikes that get ridden a lot need the occasional thoroughgoing overhaul. This is reality, and this is why Competitive Cyclist now offers a pro-quality overhaul for your bike -- whether you bought it from us or not.
Our comprehensive overhaul of Shimano-equipped bikes encompasses the following steps:
- We strip the bike to the frame, and vigorously clean the frameset and all components.
- We clean the crankset, cassette, and derailleurs in our ultrasonic cleaner to ensure all nooks & crannies get clean.
- We pull apart the headset, hubs, and BB to inspect bearing condition in each. We will advise on bearing replacement as needed.
- We true/tension wheels.
- We re-grease/anti-seize all component contact points.
- We install a new Dura-Ace CN-7801 chain, a full Dura-Ace brake/derailleur cable kit (both cables and housing), a new set of Dura-Ace brake pads, plus a fresh wrap of Deda foam handlebar tape.
- We reassemble the bike and tune all components to the standards we apply to our new bikes.
Our goal, in essence, is to turn back the hands of time. We want your bike to perform and to look the way it did on its maiden voyage. The technicians working on your bike are the same ones who build the new Dura-Ace and Ultegra-equipped bikes we ship from Competitive Cyclist every day. Their breadth of technical expertise and textbook knowledge of high-end Shimano and high-end bikes in general is unparalleled. They will treat your bike with expert and loving care.
