If we didn't call this color awful, would we still sell as many? Oakley debuted their Radar sunglasses in the Spring of 2007, and no color saw the interest of this Neon Greyellow known as "Retina Burn". Alexander Vinokourov famously wore them every day during the '07 Tour de France 'til he got the boot from the race. And, thankfully, David Millar wore them as well , giving Oakley a less morally sullied poster boy.
The Retina Burn is a standard set of Oakley Radars with two extra details of note: One is their blisteringly bright frames. The other is their Fire Iridium lens, making this the only Fire Iridium model in the Radar family. Fire Iridum transmits 16% of available light, making them an ideal lens choice for medium-to-bright days. But even more important, perhaps, is the fact that the lens color is a shimmering Orange/Yellow that complements the electricity of the frame to perfection.
Oakley limited their production of the Retina Burn to less than 1000 pieces only. It might not seem like a lot (because it's not). But it's better than what they'd originally led us to believe: Given the love/hate relationship people expressed about the colors, Oakley said they'd never release them for retail sale. At least for the moment we got our mitts on a small handful. Get them while they're still here. We have been ASSURED by Oakley that our last shipment of them will be our final shipment. Oakley is done with producing the Radar. Fini.
We sell the Radar Retina Burn in the Pitch lens size only (this is the "medium" size lens in the Radar family -- Path is smaller, Range is larger). We like the Pitch because it's large enough to protect your eyes from debris, while being small enough so it doesn't overheat the head and seal your eyes off from the world. The Radar has interchangeable lenses. Not only can you change tints, but sizes as well.
Like all Radar models, the lens is hydrophobic with a new oleophobic coating for better vision. Sweat won't streak your lens and muddy up your field of view. Rather these coatings cause moisture to run off the lens with no residue.
The frame is made from Oakley O-Matter. There is soft Unobtanium at the temple ends and the nose to better grip the face. Unobtanium is slightly hydrophilic, so it will grip better when wet and sweaty. The lens is made from Plutonite and has Oakley's famed High Definition Optics (HDO). The Radar comes with a zipper case that has room for a spare lens and a microfiber bag that is both a lens cleaning cloth and soft storage.
