We want to call this piece Il Ultra Super Inverno rather than just "Forma", since a jacket this stellar needs to go beyond Giordana's standard naming conventions. As you probably know, Forma is the name that highlights the Giordana Body Clone collection, the super-high end of their line. Body Clone pieces stretch and fit the body closely.

But the name doesn't capture the essence or the purpose of this top. It's a full-on, heavy-duty winter outer layer. Giordana says it's good for temps below 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Heavy-duty fleece-lined jerseys can be worn at 45. We think the Forma Jacket goes well below freezing. And does it with comfort for the wearer and style for the viewer. Yes, it could be worn at 45 with a sleeveless base layer, but we don't think anyone is really planning on doing that.

The first feature we want to point out are the 14cm zippered cuffs on the sleeves. Easy on, easy off. The ample reflective piping on the back is smart, as are the three pockets, and one zip pocket that can take an MP3 player and hook the rider up with internal cable routing to the phone or pod can be connected to the ears without going outside. Subtle.

But the feature that makes the jacket the Forma top is the Activa Plus GTB material that makes up most of the piece. It's like an ogre; it has layers. There's a Meryl Actisystem outer layer with a titanium treatment, then WindTex, which, as you know, is waterproof, windproof, and breathable. And an inner layer of polyester pile. The jacket isn't totally waterproof, because the seams aren't sealed, but it's very close -- there are Roubaix fleece panels under the back of the arms for a little venting. Sealing the top from the elements is a tall collar and a silicone gripper at the bottom hem. Colors are Black with White panels and Red with Black panels.
