Suffice it to say that alongside Alpe d'Huez, the Kemmelberg, and the Manayunk Wall, your checklist of must-see bike racing monuments needs to include the velodromes at Ghent and Dortmund. Smile as you choke in the dank, smoke-filled air. Show gratitude as you go temporarily go half-deaf from the cacophonous oom-pa-pa band and the shrieking of the PA announcer. It's a scene no less vital to the history and the culture of bike racing than the cobbles of Belgium and the 8,000 ft high passes that burst upward from the Rhone Valley.

Assos has long been involved in track racing. They sponsor Bruno Risi and Franco Marvulli, who together won the 2007 Madison World Championship in Mallorca. In addition, they're a corporate sponsor of the Six Days of Zurich. Given their commitment to the track scene, it's perhaps no surprise that they've chosen to release a limited edition commemorative package they refer to as their Six Day Kit -- a lovely short sleeve jersey that comes with a matching cap and socks.

The Six Day jersey is similar in construction and materials to their Equipe jersey. The Micro-Cell fabric is silken to the touch, and it has a lightness for instantaneous wicking. But the design hearkens to the jerseys of historic Six Days, with race numbers printed on the shoulders and the back. The numbering theme carries over to the socks and the cap as well. Available in Black, White, Red, and Blue, in sizes Small-XLG. The jersey, cap, and socks come together in a beautiful box that includes a full-color 40-page booklet chronicling the history of Six Day racing. Also, Assos makes matching Six Day gloves, but they aren't included in this package for sizing reasons.
