The Assos earlyWinter socks are just that -- a wee bit thicker than what you get in their ultra-breathable spring/fall socks in order to provide a hint of extra insulation when temps begin to fall. It's made from the same Merino wool blend that you get in the thicker winterPlus version, so you get much of the same moisture-wicking, insulation and water-resistance as the winterPlus. But, obviously, not to such a great extent since it's built with less thickness. Assos rates these for temps in the 45-60 degree range. Above 60 your normal summer socks like the spring/fall are ideal, and below 45 either the winterPlus or the Thermic socks are better options for keeping your toes happy.
