The Shimano Flight Deck computer system embodies Shimano's vision of total system integration for their drivetrain componentry. The handlebar-mounted computer syncs directly into your STI shift levers via wires that run beneath your handlebar tape. Shimano does this to avoid having to install buttons on the computer head itself, and instead it allows you to scroll through the information by pressing buttons built into the side of the STI levers themselves., which gives you safe hands-on-the-bars, eyes-on-the-road operation.
Beyond all of the fundamental info you expect from your computer -- speed, distance, odometer, time of day, average and maximum speed, stop watch, and lap counter -- the Flight Deck also displays your gear position and ratio (that's our favorite function), as well as a virtual cadence reading.
There is no external wire harness, so the Flight Deck system looks incredibly clean once it's set up. Please note that you will need to select the computer specific to your drivetrain -- the harness for a 9-speed drivetrain is different from that of the 10-speed. MSRP $175.00.
