The Power Tap Comp is the 3rd generation of its breed. Like previous versions of the Power Tap, the Comp offers enough information to satisfy even the most analytically-minded cyclist. The Power Tap hub measures torque at a rate of 60 readings per second. By taking into account torque and wheel speed, power in watts is instantaneously computed and transmitted to a seatstay-mounted receiver. This is a wired system, so your wattage data is transmitted via sensor cable to a handlebar-mounted computer that displays 3 customizable rows of data. Along with a wattage display (current, average, or maximum), you can also see speed (current, average, or maximum), cadence (current or average), distance (current & an odometer), time, and energy in kilojoules. At 1 second intervals, you can retain up to 7 hours of data. Like other Power Tap systems, the Comp provides heart rate data.
We build our CycleOps Power Tap Comp wheel with a black DT RR 465 rim because it's the best rim in the world, especially if you're interested in day-in, day-out wheel durability. The DT RR 465 is light, it has a peerless braking track, and it'll last for countless thousands of hard training miles. We use DT Champion 14 gauge spokes and brass nipples. This wheel has 32 spokes, and it comes in your choice of a Shimano/SRAM or Campagnolo freehub body. The Shimano/SRAM version is compatible with any Shimano 8, 9, or 10 speed cassette, and with all SRAM road cassettes. The Campagnolo version is compatible with any Campagnolo 9, 10, or 11 speed cassette.
One beauty of the Power Tap hub itself is that it is completely serviceable in terms of axle, bearings, and freehub body. All of these components can be disassembled without disturbing the torque sensing strain gauges and associated electronics. Each system comes complete with a wheel, the Power Tap computer head, the seatstay-mounted sensor cable, all mounting hardware, plus CycleOps PowerAgent analytical software (Mac and PC compatible), plus a "Training with Power" DVD. Please note that these systems do not include a chest strap for measuring heart rate. They require a coded strap, such as the Garmin and CycleOps chest strap . They are not compatible with a Polar coded strap.
