WILIER MIMOSA

When you're exploring options for a new bike, no consideration trumps the importance of proper fit. Achieving the best fit possible is a two step process: Step one is finding the right size frame. Step two is tuning the details (stem length, saddle position, etc) for your body dimensions and your flexibility. If you're a woman contemplating a new road frame, you should give the Mimosa a serious look. Wilier built it specifically for women, and they did so by basing it on their hugely popular Izoard model. Like the Izoard, the Mimosa is built with full carbon construction. Its patented molding process and the carefully-thought-out wall thicknesses and carbon layup choices befit a frameset with a heftier price tag.

Why is carbon layup such an important issue here? It's because the layup, more than anything else, is what makes the Mimosa ideal for women. While the Mimosa geometry will agree with most women, Wilier tuned the layup to ensure that the Mimosa won't ride stiff-as-a-jackhammer. While a 5'6" woman and 5'6" man with similar dimensions might find the same geometry comfortable, their frame stiffness requirements can vary greatly. If the woman weighs 125lbs, and the man weighs 175lbs, the difference between love and hate is determined by the layup. The Mimosa isn't ideal for women simply due to geometry, but also because the ride quality of the frame is tuned for a typical woman.

Beyond its layup, the technology behind the Mimosa is outstanding. It's made exclusively from Toray carbon, in this case T60 (high modulus/maximum stiffness) and M30J (medium modulus) unidirectional carbon. By using T60 and M30J in the Mimosa, Wilier is sacrificing nothing in terms of its ride quality and durability in comparison to models like the Le Roi, but rather they just use more material to achieve it. And this is why the Mimosa tips the scales at a frame weight of 1150g -- a mere 100g heavier than the Le Roi. Another way to think about it is this: For every gram the Le Roi saves over the Mimosa , it costs you $10. Considering the beauty and the ride quality of the Mimosa, the value is easy to seize.

The Mimosa is available in 3 sizes in a White/Pink with a gorgeous graphic treatment suggestive of the halberds (a.k.a. Italian fleurs-des-lis) in the Trieste coat of arms. The paint is a jaw-dropper. It requires the use of a 31.6mm seatpost, a 34.9mm clamp-on front derailleur, and an English bottom bracket. Like any bike with a sloping top tube, we suggest that you focus on the effective top tube length in determining the correct frame size. It comes standard with a Wilier Monoscocca Monocoque carbon fork, a Ritchey integrated headset, and a Ritchey Pro carbon seatpost.
