A select few time trial frames tantalize us with their beautiful, radical designs. The Pinarello Montello FP8, the Cervelo P3 Carbon, and the Colnago C50 Krono have long been positioned at the pinnacle of the TT-specific frame market. Each has a masculine monocoque construction that reminds us of the maddening engineering that goes into an F1 car -- no millimeter of the structure has gone unexamined. Every excess ounce of mass has been shaved away, and any structural impediment to a streamlined flow of air has been eliminated. When considering each of these three vaunted framests, in fact, only one drawback exists. It's not price, though none of the three come cheap. Rather, it's that none of can be structurally tailored to the physiology of the rider himself. Monocoque molds are just too blessed expensive to allow for custom frame geometry in a super high end time trial bike -- that is, until now. BMC has shattered the paradigm with the release of the full-custom Time Machine TT 01. BMC rolled out their Personal Precision Program (the "3P", as it's known) as a process by which you are fitted for a completely customized BMC Time Machine TT 01. 3P is the result of BMC's analysis of the physiology of over 3000 riders. They're worked with a high-powered staff of German and Swiss engineers and exercise physiologists to correlate body dimensions to bike position. After a thorough measurement session with you we confer with BMC to establish relationships between your ergonomics and the ideal geometry and stiffness factors for your new frame. We'll work with BMC in every last detail to ensure maximum aerodynamics and performance. You can be sure you'll finish the process with no question left unanswered. The full carbon fiber construction of the Time Machine makes it the lightest full carbon TT frame on the market. Lightness, of course, is secondary here. More material is the drag reduction you achieve through features such as the Airfoil Continuum and the Aero Hinge. With the Airfoil Continuum BMC has created the sleekest tubing profiles imaginable. The UCI requires ProTour teams to ride TT bikes with a frame tube width of 25mm, and the ratio of width to depth cannot fall below 1:3. BMC painstakingly builds 25mm deep tubes and ensures that the depth is exactly 75mm -- meeting UCI requirements without adding one additional iota of drag. The Aero Hinge is an integrated headtube/stem that maximizes aerodynamics at the front of your frameset. Instead of a fork steerer tube coming though your headtube, the headtube itself is a hinge for steering. Thanks to the lack of a steerer, the headtube diameter can be substantially smaller in width and accordingly reduces your frontal area. The aerodynamic impact is dramatic. Other details abound such as the ultra-aero integrated carbon seatpost and the "Down Fin" that stiffens the BB area as well as improves rear wheel aerodyamics. Internal cable routing and a sculpted fork are two more of the countless details about the Time Machine that are sure to amaze you.
