Few cyclocross frames we sell have the stoutness of the BMC Cross Machine CX01. Its main triangle is made from Easton's triple-butted Ultralite aluminum, so it isn't punitively heavy, but it's nevertheless nearly an authentic substitute for a hardtail mountain bike. Its tubes are noticeably beefier and more oversized than other CX frames, and it provides more mud clearance than any other frame we sell, which is one more reason that it's well suited for any racing conditions and just about any sort of reasonable off-road trail riding you can throw at it.
If you're familiar with the BMC road bike family, you'll probably notice similarities between the Cross Machine and the Road Racer SL01. It goes beyond the fact that both bikes are built from an Ultralite tubeset. Just like the Road Racer, the Cross Machine features BMC's eye-catching Crosslock Skeleton seat cluster design for extra rigidity when you put the hammer down. And, no different from the Road Racer, the Cross Machine features BMC's Firefork carbon fiber wishbone monocoque seatstay -- further enhancing it resistance to flex while providing extra smoothness for lousy road (and CX course) surfaces.
The Cross Machine comes with a 1-1/8" Easton EC90X carbon fiber cyclocross fork, an Easton EA50 seatpost and an FSA integrated headset. It requires a 35.0mm front derailleur and an English bottom bracket. The cable stops are built to run both derailleur cables and the rear brake cable on the top of the top tube (protecting them from flying mud, and preventing the stops from digging into your shoulder when your running over obstacles). The frame comes with a pulley on the seat tube so you won’t have any problems using your bottom pull road-specific front derailleur (keep in mind that all road front derailleurs are bottom pull). One other note: if you're building the frame yourself, and you're using Campy, you'll possibly have to use a rear derailleur cable for the front derailleur, as the short front derailleur cable in a standard Campy cable kit sometimes comes up short due to the routing around the seat tube pulley.
The Cross Machine is available in 6 sizes from 50cm-61cm in a BMC's signature Team Red Gloss.
