Ridley has proven time after time that it knows how to build winning cyclocross bikes. A staple in the European and American cross scene, Ridley bikes have been at the top step of the world championship podium for seven out of the last 11 years. Considering how many other bike brands there are on the circuit, that's a pretty staggering record. The 2016 X-Night SL 10 Disc Force CX1 Complete Cyclocross Bike brings that tradition to your doorstep with a top-end design and build kit capable of competing at even the highest levels of the sport.
The X-Knight SL contains a mix of 30t and 24t high-modulus carbon fiber — the same materials found in Team Lotto-Soudal's cobblestone-conquering Fenix SL frameset — to sop up fatiguing vibrations and tenaciously transfer every watt into forward motion for a fast yet cushy ride equal to even the harshest race conditions. Its internal cable routing makes for a clean, streamlined look with the added bonus of eliminating pesky cable pinches when shouldering your bike up a steep wall of limestone stairs. Classic European cyclocross geometry gives the X-Night SL a fast, aggressive posture, and its wide tire clearance gives this frame the versatility to challenge for the win in everything from snowy, Northeastern mud to dry, West Coast dirt.
At the front, Ridley outfits the X-Knight SL with an Oryx Disc carbon fiber fork, updated here with a few details to reduce stress out on the course. It boasts a 15mm thru axle for a stiff, stable ride even when navigating tight, twisty elevation changes. These ride qualities are further boosted with the fork's barely noticeable asymmetry, which counters the extra torsional forces applied to the left fork leg when scrubbing speed. The dropouts include stainless steel inserts to protect the carbon from scratches and a scuff plate on the inside of the left fork leg fends off damage from errant discs during frantic mid-race wheel changes. This means more years of racing and less time worrying about the integrity of your bike's front end.
Ridley builds up the X-Night 30 Disc with SRAM's much-touted Force CX1 drivetrain and its powerful Force HRD hydraulic disc brake system for simplified gearing and rockin' stopping power out on the course. The 42t chainring pairs with an 11-28t cassette to provide exceptional mid-range gearing options suitable for almost any 'cross terrain. For extreme courses requiring a different gear setup, the chainring is easily swapped out for any 110BCD SRAM X-SYNC chainring, sold separately, to accommodate those needs. To round things out, a 4ZA Cirrus Pro cockpit controls the ride, while a set of 4ZA Cirrus Pro T30 rims laced to DT Swiss 350SP hubs rolls fast and smooth with a set of Challenge Grifo Tubular tires.
