While we don't like to rate a frame by the accolades that its riders have received, a World Championship is a World Championship, and Ridley cyclocross frames have won seven of them. Obviously, Belgians know 'cross. That's why we know that you'll love the "form follows function" design of the Ridley X-Fire Disc, with every centimeter having been designed for the muck and mud of Belgium winters.

Ridley's X-Fire Disc features a frame constructed of 24-ton carbon fiber, and a full-carbon 4ZA Oryx fork. To manage the load forces from the new disc brake, 4ZA now uses a reinforced lower-leg design. This is beneficial in three ways. First, the massive legs guarantee that you won't experience any lurching or torsion from the caliper. Additionally, the larger blades aid in absorbing any chatter, vibration, or shock from nasty terrain. And last, the 1-1/8 x 1-1/2in, oversized design provides unparalleled rigidity. Coupled with the massive head tube juncture, the Oryx fork offers nimble handling and an explosive sprinting prowess -- perfect for the short spurts of power required after barriers.

And while the newly redesigned fork is amazing, the frame construction and features bring just as much to the table. For the carbon itself, the "T" in 24T stands for ton -- meaning that the X-Fire's carbon is able to withstand 24 tons of pressure per-square-inch. This level of strength might sound weighty, but the opposite is actually true. Ridley knows that with stronger carbon, less can be used to receive greater results. Accordingly, this application sheds weight while increasing torsional and lateral rigidity. Aside from carbon, Ridley's decades of 'cross experience bred a few frame features that you'll be happy to have when you're running in the mud. For one, the X-Fire has a squared top and down tube for a heightened sense of comfort and grip when you're shouldering the frame. In turn, this feature also stiffens the bottom bracket juncture for power efficiency. For added protection from the elements, and for unencumbered dis/re-mounts, Ridley incorporated internal cable routing for the shift cables and the rear brake line. Ridley even designed the fork shape to shed excess dirt.

This latest version has a few new details that make it more appealing than ever. Rather than top-routed cables, like the old frame, this one uses internal routing. Ridley made a wise choice and ran full-length cable housing for both derailleurs and the rear brake. The housing simply glides through in-molded sleeves within the frame tubes. Setup is a breeze, and the protection afforded by the closed system keeps you shifting accurately race-after-race, no matter the conditions. The clever routing of the front derailleur cable allows use of a normal road bike bottom pull derailleur. The changes continue to the bottom bracket, where you'll find a BB386 shell. And while you're able to use any crank with this system, you'll maximize stiffness and heel clearance with a BB386 crankset.

The Ridley X-Fire Disc is available in the color Black/yellow and in the size XX-Small. It comes with a full carbon fork and an FSA 1-1/8 to 1-1/2-inch integrated headset. It requires a 34.9mm clamp-on bottom-pull front derailleur and a 31.6mm seatpost.

Please be aware that the X-Fire frame geometry was designed to strike a fine balance between stand over height and room for your elbow to pass if you prefer to grab the down tube as you shoulder the bike. Because of this, please be aware of the sizing and focus on the top tube length when you consider your purchase. You'll likely want to go shorter here than your standard road bike sizing. The X-Fire, like all cyclocross bikes, will have a higher top tube than modern road bikes with sloping geometry. Please don't be alarmed about this. If you have questions about fitting a 'cross bike, please feel free to call and speak with one of our sales staff.
