Nice shoe for getting rowdy

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have always worn XC-type shoes when I go mountain biking. Lightweight, efficient, breathable&they're great for going uphill fast on bikes weighing in the low 20's. I ride an enduro/trail bike now though, and I've noticed that my feet feel a bit vulnerable careening off ledges and plowing through skree at Mach chicken. So, I got these in the all black color in a size 10.5 (44). They are SNUG! I'm coming from a pair of Giro Ventanas in size 43 and the Helios fit smaller in the overall volume of the foot. The uppers are just thick I guess as my feet feel wrapped up in padding. That combined with the thicker sole does make for a very protected feeling. I'm not worried about clipping a bolder or catching a chunk of flying rock on my toes wearing these. The abrasion resistant panels on the shoes make them look like they'll last forever too. My two biggest complaints: they are heavy (at least compared to my Ventanas), and they are warm. The protection on big bike days though feels worth it as long as I'm not doing a ton of climbing. I've had one solid ride on them so far, but the initial impressions are good. I'll be taking them on some lift access here in a couple of weeks for the true test!
