MTN R29 AM Wheelset

If you ride big wheels, and you go big, you're going to need a strong set of wheels. But just because you need strength doesn't mean that you want to pedal around with boat anchors attached to your bike. Thankfully, Reynolds has answered the call for a light, durable option for big wheeled rippers with the R29 AM wheelset. They're tubeless-compatible, and built light, so you don't have to give up an efficient ride in the quest for shred. However, they'll easily accept 2.5-inch tires, which hints at just how durable these wheels really are when the trail gets interesting.

The news with the R29 AM wheelset is a brand new rim. They're 28.5mm wide at the outside, and a generous 23mm internal, which means that they'll provide a stable platform for tires up to 2.5-inches wide. Tubeless compatibility has been refined, with an enhanced bead hook and a deeper middle section that makes tire swaps a bit easier. Furthermore, the extensive aerodynamic experience from Reynolds composite wheels program makes its way into the R series alloy rims as well, meaning that these hoops cut through the air with a bare minimum of drag.

They're laced to all new Reynolds straight-pull disc hubs that utilize replaceable end caps, making them compatible with most modern axle standards. The rear hub employs a redesigned alloy freehub that places the pawls in the hub shell, and by doing so, Reynolds increased the size of the ratchet mechanism to enhance durability. The hub shell is a straight-pull affair, which both improves stiffness and makes replacing broken spokes a snap when the time comes. The svelte 1750g weight for a set makes them light enough for grueling climbs, while the ample width and incredible strength makes them an ideal choice for either enduro racing, or just blasting out laps on your favorite descents.

A nice feature of Reynolds wheels is that they use a durable 28 hole, three-cross lacing pattern, while a traditional spoke and nipple design creates easier field service and simplified truing and maintenance. The nipples are alloy for reduced rotational weight, and both front and rear spokes are straight-pull DT Swiss for high tension and total wheel strength.

And while the wheels are plenty tough, all Reynolds wheel owners are able to buy themselves some extra peace of mind by purchasing Reynolds' two-year damage protection plan. It's called RAP, which is short for Reynolds Assurance Plan. The insurance means that you'll have little fear that a crash will ruin your wheel investment.

The Reynolds R29 AM Wheelset comes with a set of tubeless-ready valves for tubeless tires. The wheels are for disc brakes only, and they come with mounts for six-bolt rotors. Lastly Reynolds has included end cap spacers for 12x142 and 10x135mm rear axles, and 9, 15, and 20mm axles front axles.
