Still Feel Skittish Even After 2 Years

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

If you're doing casual-paced rides on rolling terrain, these cryo blue pads will get the job done. However, demanding conditions such as tight criterium races and steep curving descents will have you pissin' your bibs. If it's raining, you better add 250% to the standard braking distance you are used to. Don't try anything new in the rain with these pads.

I've put about 6,000 miles on my Reynold's Assault SLG wheelset that I purchased in 2014. Still using these same stock pads and they have a ton of life to go. I feel like that is the problem, they harden, oxidize, and essentially feel like you are braking with plastic. Dirt builds up easily and calcifies the pads. I've started using 250 grit wet sand paper once per week to take off the hardened black layer that builds up so quickly.

Sadly, there's not much you can do in the first few years of owning your Reynolds wheels. They require you to use these. Reynolds now produces the Cryo blue Power stop, that offers a larger braking surface and supposedly some performance increasese. But they are on the order of $75 bucks. Lucky for me, my Reynolds warranty is up at the end of the month and I'm free to purchase what I please. Probably going with Swiss Stop Yellow.

Bottom line: Only buy them if you are still under warranty. These pads are miserably ineffective when you need them most

Original Replacements

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

If you've got Reynolds Carbon wheels, you'll need to replace worn out pads with the original options. Sound and feel will likely vary since your old pads wore in along with your wheels. Take care of wheels from day one, and you won't have an issue when you replace them with new pads.

Horrible noise makers

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

My brakes were worn out so I thought by replacing them with the original parts they would be the same ,but not.not happy because now everybody hears me when press on my brakes...

the good and bad

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I replaced the stock pads from my mercury m5 wheels with these. they squeaked more than the stock so i cambered them in a little and it's much better. Still a little squeaking at high breaking which they have always done, but breaking performance has been very good. I did his some rain in them for the first time this week on them and they did not stop me at all. So good stoppage in dry, bad in wet.

My fav carbon pads

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Every carbon wheel demands that you use your own carbon specific brake pad, but I really enjoy these pads. They seem to work better than most other pads and they make less noise.

Will this be a safe alternative for Campagnolo carbon wheels?

They are, yes. If you're running Campy brakes, they're compatible with those as well.

"There are two designs — one for Shimano/SRAM-style brake shoes and one for Campagnolo-style brake shoes. Please Note: The Campagnolo-specific set fits 2011 and newer brake pad holders with the retainer spring, but it is also backwards compatible with previous generation pad holders. One set includes four brake pads, enough for both your front and rear brake calipers."

Hi Ed,

These pads will work in you campy calipers, but are designed by Reynolds to work with Reynolds carbon wheels. For Campagnolo carbon wheels, look at these brake pads:

ok to use with Lightweight brand wheels? ty

Lightweight is emphatic about using only their branded pads. Using another brand, including these, will void any warranty on your wheels. If you have made the effort to attain Lightweight wheels, it is probably worth seeking out the correct pads.

Hey ACAP,

Yes, those pads will work well on your SR brakes.

Would these pads work with bontrager carbon wheels?

Jessica,

Technically, they are a carbon pad, although Bontrager recommends that you use their own Cork pads. Using anything other than the recommended pad will void your warranty

Is this a set of 4 pads or just 2 pads in the package? Sorry, I been tricked before.

One set includes four brake pads, enough for both your front and rear brake calipers.
