The 35mm-clamp standard is clearly here to stay, if industry-setters like Race Face aren't just making exploratory mid-level bars and stems for it, but also high-end full carbon bits like the Race Face SIXC 35 20mm Rise Handlebar. If that British Columbia-based company of rule-breakers and boundary-pushers is getting behind it, it must be the real deal.
To craft its 35mm carbon fiber bars, Race Face starts with unidirectional carbon fiber, which enables the engineers to meet their own high standards for durability without creating a heavy bar. The larger diameter of the bar and stem clamp area create a much stiffer interface and allow for an even wider bar. Because the bar becomes far stronger, engineers can go back and remove excess material without encroaching on its strength or resistance to deformation (bending and twisting). It all equates to a lighter, stiffer, stronger handlebar, which means a better handlebar, which means a better bike. In fact, Race Face's 35mm SIXC handlebar is both wider and lighter than its 31.8mm version. The 20mm rise of this model strikes an ideal balance between the XC-readiness of the 10mm rise version and the DH-bombability of the 35mm rise version.
The Race Face SIXC 35 20mm Rise Handlebar is 800mm wide and comes in three graphics colors: Red, Green, and Blue. It has a backsweep of 8 degrees and an upsweep of 5 degrees. It is compatible only with 35mm-clamp stems.
