Wedded bliss.

The marriage of SRAM and Quarq is especially fortuitous for road riders, as it means that Quarq's GXP-compatible Elsa RS Power Meter Crank Arms are perfect replications of the Exogram Hollow carbon crank Arms of SRAM's 10 and 11-speed groupsets, with or without a Yaw-equipped front derailleur. (For Red 22, Force 22, and Rival 22, check out Quarq's SRAM Red 22 Power Meter Crank Arms.) This means you won't suffer any interface issues, but you'll definitely enjoy the benefits of charting your training development and metering your race efforts with Quarq's industry-leading accuracy of +/- 1.5%.

The Elsa R GXP Crank Arms are a study in compatibilities. The first two are limiting: they only support SRAM chainrings and only mount into a GXP bottom bracket shell. The other compatibilities are less restrictive, though. Since their power meter communicates to your head unit via ANT+ wireless, your current computer is likely already compatible with it. The Elsa R Power Meter also features Quarq's OmniCal power measurement technology, which makes the unit's measurement and accuracy independent of the chainrings so you can swap between bikes and setups without worrying about compatibility.

The crank arms' proprietary Power Balance technology adds function to flexibility by charting the power you're generating in both crank arms separately, so you can compare the two and identify weaknesses in both legs to target for improvement. And while Power Balance is nice, our favorite feature may be the ability to change the system battery yourself. Other systems require you to mail in your crankset for battery swap-outs, but the Elsa R model features a tool-free user replacement system as well as a predicted 300+ hours of ride time per battery. This means more time in the saddle and no need for backup cranksets.

One issue that has plagued power meters since their inception is wildly variable temperatures in geographies where rapidly rising or falling mercury necessitates one or more mid-race zeroings. Even if it's just coating for a few seconds or toggling through your head unit to the proper option, it can still be the difference between winning and losing. It's also obnoxious as hell.

The Elsa R Power Meter's sensors address this with the 10K dynamic temperature compensation feature, which is best described as an auto-adjust schedule that Quarq developed by mapping an estimated 10,000 data points to record how the unit responds to temperatures ranging from zero to 130 degrees Fahrenheit. The gist of this is that it figures out the atmospheric details for you with minimal drift, so you can focus on turning the cranks, not babysitting them.

While we doubt it'll ever be needed to this extreme, we think it's only appropriate that Quarq designed the system to be waterproof for 30 minutes while submerged under one meter of water. The Elsa R Power Meter is finished with a few classic computer features. It measures cadence with an AxCad accelerometer, and it's compatible with various training software such as Training Peaks WKO+, Training Peaks, Golden Cheetah, and Strava.
