Puma has several different levels of FaasFoam midsole. The 500 level sits in the middle: it's not for 0mm heel-forefoot, minimalist shoes, and it's also not for full-on 12mm heel-forefoot traditional cushioned running shoes. With this cushy midsole, your transition to minimalism running stays on track, and you still have protection from the rough and tumble surface of the trail.
The decoupled heel separates heel action from forefoot action, giving your change to a midfoot runner time to evolve without sacrificing heel-saving softness. From the heel to the 4mm lower forefoot, a sticky EverGrip rubber sole lines the bottom in the form of multi-directional lugs. Quick direction changes or technical sections of scree become routine with the friction-friendly sole. Lateral release grooves smooth your step so each lift-off leaves nothing to be desired.
