Here's what others have to say...

I have a pair of freeriders from a few seasons back. They've finally beatup enough that it's time to replace them. I bought a new pair and immediately noticed that the new shoe is lower quality than the older pair. The materials & construction is just not as good as before. The older pair has better cushioning, better quality uppers & insoles, better stitching. The only thing that has remained the same is the stealth sole & styling. As far as I'm concerned it's not nearly the same quality that I've come to expect from 5 Ten. It's still a good mtb shoe, but not as good as it used to be. I'd rather they raise the price a bit than sacrifice quality.

If you can get this on sale, it's definitely worth the $$. I've tried on others & just couldnt quite get the right fit till I tried this one. Really wanted the Deviant2 but damn it the fit was all wrong. Fits true to size & cushy inner padding makes it an nice comfy fit. The only tweaks I could recommend would be to add more venting & lengthen the front jaw piece to give more breathability. First thing I did was cut off the front bottom chin gasket. I noticed TLD has addressed some of these things in the newer D3's but for the $, I'm more than happy with the D2.
