Familiarity: I've used it several times

got this frame with a custom build here. that was fun in itself, and less expensive than the pre-built models.
it's beautiful. gorgeous lines and finish.
and then riding it is a BLAST. can't believe the stuff i can just roll over now (compared to my old santa cruz blur). very forgiving. my only issue is that on really steep uphills, the front wheel wanders more than i'd like, despite leaning way forward. probably because it's quite slack in the head angle, and possibly because i have a medium frame (6 feet tall) and thus have the seat position back a bit too far . otherwise it's a great ride - even my wife (who gets scared/tense on a mountain bike due to previous crashes) loves it and wants to ride it now. the medium is about 4 inches longer in wheelbase than my large santa cruz blur. it's wonderful on singletrack and rocky trails, and i've been making cimbing switchbacks that i usually don't. an all round great bike.

i've used these a few times for ...yes, spin class. i vowed i'd never do those. they are comfortable (i have narrow feet) and very easy to get in and out of- easier than other cycling shoes like my sidi's. one outward pull of the ratchety thing and you're out. getting in is easy too since the cables become quite loose upon exiting. shove your foot in and wind it up snug as you want. perfect fit. easy to tighten on the fly too. they are quite stiff but have grippy lugs on the bottom. i use seperate insoles in them. the dotted fabric is a little odd looking; not great on the style points.

i'm going to get a second pair of these so i never have to ride in anything else. the first pair has served for 5+ years and is still like new- that's probably 150+ rides and machine washes in these. i use them when it's 40-60 degrees out (most of the mornings year round). completely comfortable on - not even aware of them. never cold in them, never hot, never sweaty.
