Hey does anyone know what the inseam length on thes are? say relative to the capo padrone or the capo BOB?
Nice concept, but maybe castelli needs to go back to Garmin-Cervelo test team for some fine tuning.
Let me start with fit. I wear a 44.5 and the Large seemed like it was going to burst at the seams, so i exchanged for Xlarge. XL is good, but not perfect - the heal and cleat cut out are probably designed for a 45.5-46.5, they work but could be closer for 44.5.
In the Narcissita, a Large fit me perfectly.
Zipper - this thing needs to be redesigned for such an expensive shoe cover. The zipper digs into your calf. you can do things to minimize this, but why should you have to on such an expensive cover? if the zipper was on the side, or maybe down zip with enclosed calf, or even some kind of cloth that covered the zipper top, it would be much better.
Pros- they fit the front and top of your shoe very well. I think they do very well in wind and temps in 40's. Probably be fine in high 30's with a very thick sock. I think they are good in wet stuff too - just not heavy rain..
Pro#2- they are very very packable compared to other shoe covers. You can wear them until it gets warm, then zip them off and put them in your jersey....most other over shoes i've tried, once you have them on, you'r committed for the entire ride because they are too bulky to take off. This is a real + if you live on the West coast.
Overall they could use a quality upgrade. other than the zipper issue they fit ad feel good. i doubt you could get more than a winter out of these as i suspect you'll tear a seam or puncture them with all the streching you need to do getting them over the cleat. and dont even think about cyclecross/ or anything that you have to walk much in...like coffee.
Would probably buy them again becaue the whole packability thing is +++ for me.
oh yeah, did i mention they look really cool?
I'd say goog to keep you'r feet warm through high 30's. Probably more ideal in low-mid 40's. fit is good. My shoe size is 44.5 specialized s-works, Large fits well in the Narcisista. I also have the Nanoflex and a large was too small -felt like the seems where going to burst at any moment. its hard to compare these to the nano's....these seem to have a boader range of temps (that is you can keep them on when it gets into 60's), but they dont do as well in the wind or rain. They are more comfortable, but dont have that quite as much of an aero feel. Nano's are better in wind and moist. Back zip on naon's sucks and digs into skin. side zip on these is great. the narcissita would be better if it had a wind-proof toe covering.
Nice jersey for cool-cold weather riding. I have used it a couple times now with pearl izumi no sleeve trasfer base layer in 40-50F degree weather instead of taking a normal jersey and ight wind shell. Add some arm warmers and it works great in anything below 50F - not to warm for me. Optimal for me in this jersey w light base layer is 40-45F, still good from 45-52F, need to let down neck zip from low 50-high 50's. At 60, you can still wear it, but it does feel a bit warmish depending on your effort. Fit is comfortable with nice fleece-like interior.
-Wind protection is way better than my lightweight shell and you dont have to deal with flapping in the wind or a huge lump in your jersey back pocket. + you dont have to carry an annoying shell in your jersey pocket .
-Fit is snug, but stretchy.
-price - but nor really...how much did you pay for a jersey + wind vest?
Note on sizing. I'm 5'10", 150lbs average build. I usually wear a small in Capo tops and meduim in Castelli tops. i should note that i like to wear my jersey's snug and i have a short torso. I initlally ordered the Medium, which was fine but a little looser than perfect for me. I was going to keep it, but then i tried the small. I think small fit me better. Maybe because the stretchy material.
Have only had it in light rain and it performed well.
If you live somewhere where your ride starts cool warms up gets cool again, than this is it.
What i like most about this skully is that you can stuff it in your jersey easily, doesnt take up much room, and is pretty warm. not sure its what i would go for in the 30's, but 40-60's its great.
more coverage than pearl izumi skull cap...AND no seem at the edge makes is way more comfortable under a helmet than PI.
only downer is price.
