Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I try to have these on hand during anything I do that I'd categorize as light exercise- skiing the resort, short hikes, etc. They provide enough of a quick energy boost without bogging you down and making you feel sluggish. They're tasty as well, so you never feel like you're choking them down like with some of the other bars out there. All in all, pretty amazing snack when you're feeling hungry, but don't need the full fix of the original PROBAR.

While I usually eat other pro bar products during my workouts, I prefer my Base Bars either first thing in the morning or following workouts because they provide more long term energy rather than a quick fix. While they definitely have a different taste than the original Pro Bars, they are far better tasting than a lot of the traditional protein bars out there. I would agree with phunk though, that having a drink with them is the way to go, coffee works for me too :)

Tasty and easy to digest, these things are the jam for missions where you need a quick hit of energy. I'll usually have a pack open in my pocket and eat a couple every 15 minutes or so on longer hikes/tours, which seems to keep my energy pretty consistent. For anything over a couple of hours, I like to pair the chews with meal bars, which helps out when you get a bit deeper into your day. Similar to the meal bars, I've never had any problems with the chews freezing up when the mercury drops, which is nice when you're tired, colds and need a quick energy fix.

I've had too many experiences skiing in the backcountry and I reach for my bar only to find it turned into a piece of molar-cracking slate. Then, I was introduced to PROBAR. They don't freeze (or at least don't freeze as easily) as other bars I've had in the backcountry, making them far more palatable then some of the other bars out there. There's nothing worse than being starving and trying to chomp down frozen bars. I'll often pair these with the bolt chews for longer missions, the combination seems to provide an ideal mix of quick hits of energy and long term energy.
