Cyclocross is all about unpredictable weather on race day. Though your first 10 minutes are sunshine and cowbells, the next 35 minutes could be marked by cold rain and hand-ups. Not that we're complaining, but unpredictable weather means using tires that're just as rugged as you. Take on mud, pavement, and hecklers with the Maxxis Mud Wrestler CX Clincher Tire.
The Maxxis Mud Wrestler is an all-conditions race tire. With continuous ramped center knobs, traction and speed are its main objectives. However, the aggressive side knobs are the standout feature of the Mud Wrestler. They cut through mud and snow through corners, and keep the rubber side down as you zip through the course. Even better, Maxxis designed the Mud Wrestler to self-shed mud from the tread. And though these tires have the necessary knobs for traction, the open tread design tackles pavement sections with minimal rolling-resistance.
A tire's flat protection is always in the back of our minds -- especially on race day. However, you can sleep easy knowing that the Mud Wrestler's 60 TPI construction will minimize the risk of flatting through both rocky sections and foliage covered segments of the course. But, for good measure, you should still stay clear of the bottle that the spectator broke over his head. This doesn't mean that you're out of luck if you do hit it, though. Maxxis' road compound rubber combines three layers of rubber -- a hard, long-lasting center, and two progressively softer compounds that give these tires durability and the supple roll that you want through paved sections.
The UCI compliant Maxxis Mud Wrestler CX Clincher Tire is foldable and available in a 700c x 33mm size.
