Magura has revamped their entire lineup, and the good news is that technology trickledown has resulted in a host of new products that share the same great design features. The Magura MT4 Disc Brake is a recipient of the trickle. It shares the general design of the top-line MT8, but does so in a value-minded package that only assesses a sub-40 gram weight penalty. When using the MT4, you can expect to get that same smooth application of stopping power and consistent lever feel that you expect from Magura's top shelf products-all in an extremely affordable package.

The MT4 master cylinder is manufactured from CarboTecture, a carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic that offers incredible strength and stiffness at a super low weight. The master cylinder assembly also features EBT (Easy Bleed Technology) to ensure mess-free bleeding. Magura gives the MT4 tool-free lever positioning to offer easy tuning for optimum leverage and ergonomics. The low-profile clamp and reservoir design provides plenty of space for positioning shifters and remotes around the master cylinder, and it can be mounted moto style without hindering bleed port access.

The caliper features a double arch design, similar to Magura's fork crowns. This adds stiffness to an otherwise superlight caliper body. A banjo fitting on the MT6's two piston, forged aluminum, post mount caliper makes for clean line routing on current frame designs. To ensure there's no unwanted drag, Magura gives the piston seals a special treatment so they retract under dirty and dusty conditions. The pistons are made of a thermoplastic that insulates the fluid from heat generated by the pads, which helps keep braking consistent during steep descents.

Magura continues to use magnets to help hold the steel-backed organic pads in place, but has made pad changes even easier with a top-loading design. This also adds an upper window to further vent heat, enhancing performance and increase life. If you've ever struggled with installing your wheel due to aligning the rotor into the caliper, you'll appreciate the chamfer Magura adds to help guide the rotor in between the pads.

The Magura MT6 Disc Brake weighs in at 330 grams for the lever, caliper, line, and a 160mm rotor-rotors and adapters, however, are available separately. This allows you to choose the appropriate ones for your application. The MT4 Brakes come with a 5-year, leak-proof warranty.
