For the cost-conscious rider who still demands the utmost of their equipment, FSA has designed their Energy Brake Calipers. They're built just like the more expensive K-Force Brakes, only with hardware differences. They're lighter on the price, not on the quality.
As with the K-Force, the FSA Energy Brake Calipers are forged with an I-Beam dual pivot design. The I-Beam structure means that FSA has been able to keep them lightweight and stiff at the same time. The stiffness of the arms and the dual pivot construction means that you'll be able to count on them to bring you to a full stop in no time, even if you're bombing down a wicked steep descent. And if you like to feather your brakes a bit, you'll appreciate the smoothness of the thrust bearings at the main pivots. They're designed to minimize friction between the caliper arms. It's part of what gives these brakes a great feel at the lever. You'll be able to adjust the stiffness of the spring tension so you can customize just how responsive the brakes will be to a touch on the lever.
The Energy Brake Calipers differ from the K-Force in two ways. They use chromoly instead of titanium pivot bolts. It's not a matter of quality, just expense. And rather than carbon fiber, they use aluminum for the brake pad holders. Still, the differences in the hardware only increase the weight by 30 grams. This little nod to economy will hardly seem like a compromise since you'll be getting the same smooth and secure braking quality. All the same, the holders do have the exact orbital pad adjustment that comes with the K-Force, which means that you can rotate the holder to make the installation of fresh brake pads less of a hassle. A ratchet quick release lever is provided for easy tire access in and out of the calipers, since no one wants to be forcing a wheel through tight brake arms during an important race day wheel change.
The FSA Energy Brake Calipers have a reach of 40-50 millimeters and a sleek narrow shape. This means that they'll work well on even hard-to-fit bicycles like the Scott Plasma. They have an understated polished black anodized finish with red and white FSA color graphics. Please Note: These FSA calipers take Shimano type replacement pads.
