SRAM pulls out all the stops for the PC-1091R Chain. It has everything you could ask for in a chain -- strength, SRAM's lightest weight, and their best corrosion resistance. The icing on the cake is that the PC-1091R is quieter this year than the 1090R due to more heavily chamfered inside edges on the outer link plates.

The PC-1091R is SRAM's lightest chain thanks to the pierced outer plates in addition to the hollow, chrome hardened pins. It'll save you roughly 30 grams over a standard chain. This is the chain used by SRAM-sponsored ProTour teams like Astana and Saxo Bank, so it's plenty durable.

Both the inner and outer link plates are nickel coated. While this doesn't negate the need to lube your chain, it will be highly corrosion resistant. As you know, one wet ride can turn a lesser chain orange if you hang up your bike without addressing the maintenance before you forget about it. And that's rust, friends, attacking the chain. The nickel plating on the PC-1091R will help your chain last for many miles and give you the freedom to lube it tomorrow, or the next day.

You can install a PC-1091R Chain without special tools thanks to SRAM's PowerLock connecting link. No other sub-6mm chain in the marketplace shares this feature. And unlike the occasional headaches we're all familiar with when it comes to Shimano HG pins and Wippermann connecting links, the PowerLock link is as strong or stronger than any other link on the chain, and it won't hinder shift quality in the least.

The SRAM PC-1091R Chain is made specifically for 10-speed drivetrains, and it mates perfectly with the tooth shaping and pickup/release points on SRAM's cassettes and chainrings for flawless shifting performance though it's also compatible with Shimano 10-speed drivetrains. Please note that while the PowerLock installation can be done tool-free, it's recommended to be used only once due to the extremely close tolerances required by the narrow 10-speed design. So if you must break your chain for maintenance reasons, a new 10-speed PowerLock link will be required to reassemble it.
