ASSOS MEN'S SHORTS/BIBS - ROAD
Assos created the S5 Thermal Bibs with the understanding that the relative insulation of your knee warmers leaves the thin lycra of your cycling shorts feeling a bit sheer when you turn into a chilly headwind. Combine these S5 Thermal Shorts with knee warmers to make a modular system that gives you the warmth you need from below the knee to your waist.
Since the folks at Assos created these to bridge the gap between this season and next, it just makes sense that they'd have a long distance fit, similar to their FI.Mille S5 Bib Shorts. The FI.Mille S5 Chamois is curved to perfectly fit your body, and it has a cut at the front to reduce genital pressure. In addition it has the same softness and heat-ventilation dimples of the FI.13 chamois. What gives it the "Long Distance" designation is the fact that it has more surface area than the FI.13, it stretches less than the FI.13, and it has a stabilizer built into the chamois, causing it to move less during your pedal stroke. One aspect of the FI. Mille chamois that we like is that the front portion is cut high enough to prevent "podium bulge" for those moments you'll be spending off the bike in the caf\351 or general store.
The six panel shorts use a combination of super soft Roubaix and Roubaix Q fabric. The panels that line the inner leg and seat area are simply Roubaix fabric, known for its baby soft caress and lofty warmth. The outer portion of the legs and the front use Roubaix Q, a fabric that starts life as Roubaix. The difference is the waffle pattern that is cut into the microfleece interior of the fabric. The reduction in material doesn't decrease the warmth; however, it does decrease the weight and bulk, making these shorts feel as light and comfortable as their summertime cousins.
The Assos T.607 S5 Thermal Bib Shorts are Black and come in six sizes from Small to TIR. The bib uppers have a large mesh insert in the back for maximum ventilation and stretch. The three centimeter tall elastic leg cuffs have soft silicone dots to keep the bottom of the shorts comfortably in place, and reflective material is sewn into each seam on the lower leg, both front and rear, to make you more visible in low light conditions.
