RAPHA MEN'S ARM/KNEE/LEG WARMERS
There are plenty of days when neither thin spandex knee covers and bulky brushed fleece sleeves work. There's a middle ground that actually covers a pretty big temperature range. This is where Rapha's Wool Mix Knee Warmers fit into the gear matrix.
Merino is an old solution that should have never lost favor. The New Zealand wool is thin, soft, light, wicking, anti-stink, and fast-drying. Not only does it work well, but it looks good, too, thanks to the matte color and flatlock stitching.
Since Rapha is big on classic materials strengthened by modern technology, these warmers are actually 97% Merino and 3% Lycra, but that 3% merely helps with fit, making the stretch of the garment longer lasting and with better rebound. The 97% is all about warmth in a light package. The Merino is knit super-fine, like a high-end shirt, which makes it the equivalent of a mid-weight knee warmer, not super thermal, not super windproof, but warm, wind resistant, light, and compact when stowed in a jersey.
As these are made by Rapha, the style is understated. The flatlock seams are sewn in matching black thread. There are rubber grippers sewn under the upper and lower hems for keeping the fit right. There are small reflective tabs by the calves. There are even discreet Rapha logos -- little sewn-on labels evoking an earlier time.
These Merino warmers are easy to care for. They don't need to be laundered after every ride. Only do it when they're dirty or stinky. They can be hand- or machine-washed with like colors, rinsed on cold, and tumble dried on low. You can even cool iron them.
The Rapha Wool Mix Knee Warmers come in Black. Sizes are Small, Medium, and Large.
