ASSOS MEN'S SOCKS/BOOTIES
These shoe covers look like a cross between a cycling bootie and waders. They're a serious, if extremely specialized, bootie option from Assos. The afterSnowBootie. The name pretty much tells you what they're about. Wear these after the snow comes and is still on the roads or soaking the roads in the form of runoff.
Switzerland, of course, has lots of snow in the winter. But the folks at Assos are always keen to get in a ride, even when the weather conditions are less than ideal. And, like the rest of us, they've had their calves freeze thanks to puddles left on the road when the last snow melted. Gaiters wouldn't do the trick, as they are designed for hiking boots, not cycling shoes. So they responded by making an extra-high bootie to keep your lower legs warm.
The basis of the afterSnow is Assos' AEPD paneling for booties. No seam runs from the toes to the ankles. Rather, there's a front panel that extends from the toes to the ankle and then up the shin. This panel is flanked by two high side panels that extend all the way to the top of the calf. The fabric is Assos' strataGon. It has a stretchy exterior laminated to a waterproof and breathable membrane that closes its pores when cold, optimizing your insulation, and opening them up when warm, furthering your ventilation. It does all this without compromising its function as a waterproof barrier.
At the top of the bootie, there's a rubberized gripper to seal the lower leg to prevent drips down into the bootie. At the back is a locking waterproof zipper that has a reflective stripe sewn to the seam. The toe, cleat, and heel areas are covered with an extra layer of reinforced nylon fabric to make them more durable for walking to and from the café when you require a steaming hot drink to warm your insides. The Assos afterSnowBootie comes in Black. Sizes are 0, I, and II.
