For all of the advanced technology built into an SRM PowerMeter, no single bicycle component can be as frustrating to install. More specifically, the source of SRM installation angst focuses on the power pickup of an SRM sensor cable. The rubber-banded Sigma Sport hootis that holds the sensor cable onto your frame lacks in micro-adjustability, but that's exactly what's required since successfully picking up a constant power signal from a PowerMeter has a degree of difficulty equal to performing a kidney transplant.
The SRM installation blues led to much improvisation, including folks gluing (instead of banding) the power pickup to their frame, which is great unless your pickup goes bad or you want to sell your frame, etc. A superior solution was an invention of our very own here -- an independent bottom-bracket mounted power pickup bracket to which you attach the power sensor. It makes installation worlds easier, so much so that SRM buys them from us, and teams such as T-Mobile and CSC use them to keep their mechanics from going loco.
SRM took our BB-mounted design one step further by re-shaping their power sensor pickup altogether into a shape that snugly fits under your frame's BB cable guide. Aesthetically speaking, it's cleaner than our bracket, and for that reason it's a great choice -- certainly a better choice than a 1st generation sensor cable and a tube of Gorilla Glue. But please keep in mind that a traditional SRM cable in conjunction with our bracket allows for lateral and rotational adjustability, whereas this 2nd-generation BB-mounted sensor cable allows for lateral adjustability only. If you're fairly mechanically inclined, this new sensor cable will be to your liking. But if you're not entirely confident in your mechanical abilities, you'll probably prefer the 1st generation sensor cable in conjunction with our bracket.
