Whether you're looking for every advantage in your lineup of local tri's this summer or are upping your game on the amateur TT circuit, swapping out your rear training wheel for the PRO Tubular Textreme Carbon Disc Rear Wheel is certainly a step in the right direction. We were pleased with the wheel's solid technology and the Dura-Ace hub's smoothing whir almost immediately, but it wasn't until we saw Froome and Yates both roll out on the Textreme to tackle the rolling terrain of the first ITT of the 2016 Tour that we let our excitement really go unbridled.
To craft the Textreme to withstand the rigors of pro TT's, PRO molds carbon fiber in a monocoque construction, eliminating artificial stress points along the wheel and instead creating an incredibly unified structure. The lack of excess seaming eliminates unnecessary weight, resulting in a design with an impressive strength-to-weight ratio. Answering to ever-widening rim trends, the Textreme features a 24mm external width, helping air flow from tire to wheel with as little interruption as possible. A featherweight Dura-Ace 9000 hub from PRO's parent company Shimano spins quietly at the rim's center. PRO gave some extra attention to the valve cutout at the edge of the rim on the Textreme as well, using an oval shape instead of a circle to provide extra clearance for longer valve stems, and it includes a wheel bag to help ensure safe transport when you start targeting races outside of your home region.
