Description

Pony up.

The Portland Design Works Speed Metal Grips are a nice break from the omnipresent, bland rubber grips populating the streets. A unique, anodized groove treats the thumb and index finger to a direct connection for excellent control, while the vibration-dampening rubber portion features a knurled surface for enhanced grip. The grips lock-on the bars to prevent slip, and there's eight colors available; Green, Gold, Chrome, Pink, Red, Blue, White, and Black to match any pony.

Look awesome, not comfortable for me

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought a pair of these for my Niner Jet 9 RDO earlier this year and have taken it out on 5-10 rides at this point. On 2+ hour rides, they make my hands start to cramp - there's just no cushion or give in the rubber at all, it's like I'm gripping metal (I guess I should have known better, given the name). I'm also not a huge fan of the thumb indentation, it's just not that ergonomic for my hands in the end.

Give the handlebar a bit of accent color

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Comfortable grips that give a bit of accent and more expensive look compared to the cheaper rubber look. I got a Red/Black set on MTB that matches with the red accent from the headset.

Quality Product

These grips are very comfortable and performed excellently on my 3 day adventure to Gooseberry Mesa, Brianhead (Bunker & Dark Hallow) and Whole Enchilada! Only weird aspect is that the grips use 2 different sized allen bolts (which they provide). Colors are vibrant (gold).

bike grips

these grips are comforatable so far. my first ride out i crashed and broke my collar bone so i havent had much time with them. they held up well in the crash just a few little scratches. they look awesome though best looking grips ive ever had. the plastic caps for the end didnt hold up so well so ill have to see if i can buy replacment parts for them

what size bars are they for? 7/8" or 1 1/8"?

Responded on

Hi Ray, our Speed Metal grips will fit handlebars sized 22.0 - 22.2mm handlebars. So they'll work fine 7/8" bars, but won't fit 1 1/8". Thanks!
