Pump it up

Travel pumps are great, but let's face it, to the average passerby, the wild action of crouched inflation might solicit a warranted phone call to the police. Do yourself a favor and enter the world of CO2 inflation. And when you get there, pick up the Portland Design Works CO2 3-Pack to keep your system locked and loaded.

Portland Design Works' CO2 3-Pack features three, 16 gram CO2 cartridges. The cartridges are a clean, 'food grade', so you don't have to worry about any freezing ooze on the valve or inflator. Each cartridge is threaded, and works with all PDW, and most conventional, inflators.

Works-like they should

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Hard to get excited about CO2 cartridges, but these work and are fairly priced. Here's a hint: I found that when you flat in 90 degree heat and are dripping with sweat, anything you can do to help the situation is valuable. These cartridges(all brands) are slippery. I take a short length of old tube and slide over the cartridge (23 is tight so you may have to lube cylinder with a little liquid dish detergent). Now you'll have a better grip to tighten the cartridge into your inflator head AND it insulates you from the cold as cartridge discharges.
