Description

Sometimes we say no to high-tech if it clutters what we appreciate as one of the simplest and most efficient machines known to man. But when high-tech became wireless, even the curmudgeons among us had to relent and see the light, or more appropriately some real scientific data. The Polar CS200 cad has all of the cycling-specific and heart rate functionality of the standard Polar CS200, with the addition of wireless cadence.

Unique features of the CS200 cad include Polar's OwnZone technology to determine your personal heart rate limits for a training session, minimum heart rate of total exercise, average heart rate per lap, compatibility with the Polar Cycling Coach web service, compatibility with Polar's Sonic Link infrared download technology so you can analyze your ride on your PC, the ability to retain 7 ride files (the CS100 only allows 1), plus an upgrade to the supremely comfortable Polar WearLink 31 chest strap. You get a wireless speed sensor, a wireless cadence sensor, plus the ability to mount the system on either a handlebar or stem.

We are looking for a monitor to use on a stationary bike to count pedaling rotations, like steps, only on the bike. Anyone know of a device that works...I've seen some information on "foot pods" but nothing concrete so far.

Thanks..

From Polar's site:

"Distance – training, lap, and total
Distance (km, mi) can be set and measured in several ways. Training distance tells you the distance traveled during a training session. Trip distance tells you the distance from the latest trip reset. Lap distance tells you the distance of one lap. Total distance is the distance accumulated since the last reset. Odometer tells you the cumulative distance which you cannot reset."

Polar CS200 Cycling Heart Rate Monitors

I went ahead and bought the CS200 CAD (plus cadence) model after various input from others. I have really enjoyed this computer so far. Mounting everything and setup was a breeze (I did read the manual). The display is large and presents a lot of information in a easy to read format. The training zones can be entered manually or calculated through the OwnZone feature and zone times are tracked on the computer. The heart rate strap is the most comfortable I have ever used and has a removable meter for washing. I always get a great heart rate read from this computer, an A+ HRM. I recommend the cadence reading unit which gives you a valuable additional dynamic to your training. The cadence is very accurate and has not been subject of interference so far. The unit itself is not integrated with the speed sensor and is rather large. So a B grade for the cadence sensor. The speed sensor is housed in a small and aero package. It is accurate against my gps and another computer. The speed sensor does have a short range though and can't be mounted on the rear wheel for indoor training. I have also found the speed reading to have interference from my blackberry and my ipod cannot be mounted within 3 inches of the computer head or speed reads weird. The interference is rare and I read several other review from 2006 - 2007 units have all kinds of interference problems. Apparently Polar has worked these old for the most part because other than other electrical devices close to the unit I have had no problems. Surprisingly the feature I have found most valuable is the ability to upload the data to Polar Fitness website. There I can track my workouts review data and plan custom or prepared exercise programs. Getting data to the computer requires you have a computer with a microphone and a quiet room because it works via sound like a modem. This was a little weird at first but once I got the hang of it, everything is great. The persona fitness coach software is the added valuable that sets this computer apart from others.

The speed sensor has a very short range and will not work connected to the rear wheel. This is the only thing that has disappointed me about this unit, otherwise it has been great overall.

Last winter I mounted my head unit to the top tube near the seat. It worked but was really a pain in the rear to see my cadence, heart rate, and speed while on the stationary trainer. This year I am just doing without speed and distance reading in the off season.

Great Riding Tool

I've got the CS200CAD from two years ago and it still works just as well as when I pulled it out of the box. This is a great cycling computer (mine is mounted on my stem) The wireless speed and cadence sensors are really great, they don't slide around because of the rubber feet Polar designed. The heart rate strap is really comfortable and with the occasional cleaning doesn't get dingy. Get one, you'll thank yourself. Speed reading is within .5 of the police radar signs on the roadside, very accurate.
