Item # POC0105

A new approach to protection.

POC makes the Trabec Helmet in two models. This Trabec Race Helmet has a greater proliferation of Aramid netting inside the molded EPS foam core than the standard Trabec. This gives it extra protection. Aside from the color options, this is the only difference between the two. Otherwise, it's designed for mountain bikers or anyone who might want greater coverage over the ears and around the back of the head. The goal was to increase safety without sacrificing comfort and performance.

The Trabec fits more like a skateboard helmet, and this way it envelopes more of your skull. The fit can be custom tailored, and since it offers more coverage, the potential for movement when your head strikes the ground is less than smaller helmets with less coverage. Thinking about the way we wreck on trails, there is a greater chance for a variety of trajectory -- forwards, sideways, even backwards. When you get crazy, crazy things happen. So to protect your brain you need to cover your skull.

POC builds the Trabec Helmet as a single layer system. It has a polycarbonate shell that acts as the first defense against impact energy. It spreads the impact across a greater area so that the EPS liner can further absorb and soften the blow and protect your brain. Inside the foam core is an aramid net. Its purpose is to hold the foam together and resist chunking under massive, high speed impacts (like rebar in concrete). It's designed as a multi-impact system, so the helmet can survive more than just a few connections with the terra firma.

POC punches sixteen large vent holes in the shell, so you'll get plenty of airflow on hot days. An adjustable visor also helps on those sunny days to protect your eyes from glare and bright skies. A size adjustment system at the back allows you to snug it down for a perfect and wiggle free fit.

The POC Trabec Race Helmet is Black/white, Orange/White, and White/orange. It's available in three sizes -- X-Small/Small, Medium/Large, and X-Large/XX-Large. The pads inside are treated with Polygiene. It prevents bacterial growth, is eco-friendly, and is perfectly safe next to your skin. Since the bacteria can't grow on the pads, they'll last longer, require less cleaning, and smell way better.

 • 16 large vents for ventilation without compromising protection
 • Polycarbonate shell with no seams in high-exposure areas
 • Aramid-reinforced EPS core for added durability
 • Adjustable visor protects your eyes from rain, sun, mud, and branches

 • Expanded Aramid net inside EPS foam layer
 • Super-tough polycarbonate shell
 • 16 vent holes
 • Adjustable visor
 • Extended protection over typical helmets
 • Adjustable fit system

Finally upgraded, very happy I did!

 • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I haven't bought a new bike helmet in a long time. This year, I decided it was finally time. I love the Trabec Helmet! Whether I am riding dirt or road, this guy gets the job done. I haven't taken a digger yet, but I expect any Poc product to hold up. More vents would make the helmet cooler, but would take away the style, so I can deal!

Love the Trabec

 • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
 • Fit: True to size

Have used this helmet for a few seasons now and have even replaced it with another Trabec after crashing hard on it. Can say it held up to a huge crash earlier this season, I was super glad I was wearing it! It doesn't breathe as well as other brands do, but I'd prefer the head being covered than breathability, so you just need to choose what features are important to you. Also I love the color options. There, I said it.

great fit!

Love this helmet. It provides great coverage, lightweight and breathable.
Highly recommended

Proven Trail Lid

 • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The Trabec checks off all the boxes for a trail helmet. It's plenty light, adequately well ventilated, fits true to size, and looks good. My two gripes are that the retention system isn't quite as secure as the click wheel you'll find on some other helmets, and I prefer the added coverage at the base of the skull afforded by a TLD A1 or POC's new Tectal.

Have a stable of high end bikes and about as many helmets. In an effort to save weight, this manufacturer has compromised quality and safety. One the first ride, one of the strap attachment pulled out of the helmet clips and when I as attempted to reattach, it would just pull out. The velco tabs that restrain the pads are already coming loose and all this and all this after one use. Let me preface this review with the fact that I maintain all my bikes and gear in immaculate condition and have more bike tools than most bike shops. Surprises me Backcountry would even carry this helmet.

Is there a better alternative that is better constructed or better velcro, which is easy to augment with .50 cent strips BTW

Okey folks, I'm going to retire the Good'OL Giro Helios that I use for road and xc. Now, I'm Thinking about purchasing a TRABEC RACE. Should I pay the extra for the MIPS version? Is it worth the extra shillings in the end??

MIPS is where helmet technology is headed. I'd say yes, it is definitely worth it. POC was one of the first to come out with using MIPS technology, but now there are a handful of other co's utilizing it as well, including Giro. Find your price point / style of helmet, and you'll be set.

First impressions are great

 • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have a 54.5 head and went with a M/L, this is the best fitting helmet I have ever owned (I usually fit best in Giro size M). Ventilation is really fantastic (my head actually got cold!). It is not a small helmet but it has that POC look, which I like. I will not that this helmet has comprehensive coverage around the side of the head (see photo) and will not fit all sunglasses (my Tifosis didn't work too well).

I am right on the edge of XS/SM and M/L (54.5 head) - any suggestions on which way to go?

On my experience I'd go with the size up, you can always exchange the item as well if you don't like the fit.

Superior Dome Protection

Provided that protection you need for those tight turns.

Protect yo Neck

What else can I say other than POC is producing some solid dome pieces. Love this helmet took a slammer into atree head first and the helmet with stood the impact, a great helmet that's worth the price. I wear a 7 5/8's in New Era hats I ordered a XL/XXL and it fits me wonderfully

Great MTB Helmet!

 • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have a small head and initially got XS/S which was too small. That surprised me since I usually use small for helmets! Returned it for a M/L which fits perfectly. The adjustment system takes a sec to get used to. Overall the build quality is excellent, love the lower coverage. Well vented, nice bright orange to make sure you are visible to other traffic participants.

I would recommend this helmet!

Great Protection for Your Dome

 • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a great lightweight helmet that offers more protection than a normal bike helmet. Can't beat the safety and quality of a POC product. It is super comfortable to wear with great venting. Great cinch mechanism on the back of the helmet to provide a tight fit. Great helmet with an Enduro look.
