Better protection.

If you've ever felt that helmet designers placed too much attention on creating models that were too light and too aero for your tastes, then consider the POC Trabec Helmet. It's designed for mountain bikers or anyone who wants greater coverage over the ears and around the back of the head. The goal was to increase safety without sacrificing comfort and performance.

The Trabec fits more like a skateboard helmet, and this way it envelopes more of your skull. The fit can be custom tailored, and since it offers more coverage, the potential for movement when your head strikes the ground is less than smaller helmets with less coverage. Thinking about the way we wreck on trails, there is a greater chance for a variety of trajectory -- forwards, sideways, even backwards. When you get crazy, crazy things happen. So to protect your brain you need to cover your skull.

POC builds the Trabec Helmet as a single layer system. It has a polycarbonate shell that acts as the first defense against impact energy. It spreads the impact across a greater area so that the EPS liner can further absorb and soften the blow and protect your brain. Inside the foam core is an aramid net. Its purpose is to hold the foam together and resist chunking under massive, high speed impacts (like rebar in concrete). It's designed as a multi-impact system, so the helmet can survive more than just a few connections with the terra firma.

POC punches sixteen large vent holes in the shell, so you'll get plenty of airflow on hot days. An adjustable visor also helps on those sunny days to protect your eyes from glare and bright skies. A size adjustment system at the back allows you to snug it down for a perfect and wiggle free fit.

The POC Trabec Helmet is Black/grey and is available in three sizes -- X-Small/Small, Medium/Large, and X-Large/XX-Large. The pads inside are treated with Polygiene. It prevents bacterial growth, is eco-friendly, and is perfectly safe next to your skin. Since the bacteria can't grow on the pads, they'll last longer, require less cleaning, and smell way better.

  • Aramid-reinforced EPS core provides protection and greater durability than tradition cycling helmets
  • Extended side and rear coverage compared to traditional helmets for more complete head protection
  • 16 shaped vents guides air in, and around the helmet for excellent cooling and ventilation
  • Easy-to-adjust anatomic fit system holds helmet in place providing long-ride comfort
  • Polygiene anti-odor wipe included to prevent a foul smelling helmet
  • Adjustable visor helps to keep sun and mud from inhibiting vision

Saved My Room Mate!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share

Doctor says it would have been much worse. Check out the crack through the helmet. Though it did crack still saved her noggin. Couldnt save the clavicle but, that is fixable.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was astounded by the cheap construction, especially considering the cost. The plastic covering looked like it had been cut by dull scissors and hastily glued to the shell. While the size chart indicated my head size fell well within the range of the size I ordered, the helmet was too tight, even on the largest setting.

A much better helmet can be purchased for $100 less.

Love this helmet!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Very easy to adjust and it fit perfectly on my head. I have had issues over the years with finding a helmet that is comfortable and I took a risk buying this one online but it has plenty of areas to adjust and feels great. Very light weight and lots of ventilation not to mention that I think it looks great! I bought it in white and love the color!

Highly recommend!

Above average, but not perfect

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I picked this helmet up as my first mountain biking helmet, and have ridden with it several times.

What I like:
*white color option helps a bit with the heat
*size XL fits my enormous head well
*the big vents let in a good amount of breeze when I'm downhilling
*it seems to have good overall coverage

What I don't like:
*the side straps tend to shift position easily if you take the helmet off hang hang it by them
*the only thing securing the chin strap tightener is a rubber band
*the brow pads don't do a very good job of keeping sweat out of my eyes (it's been a hot summer!)

Awesome Helmet!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I purchased this helmet after realizing my previous one was long expired and probably would not survive a minor bike wreck. I looked at POC helmets because I have a ski helmet of theirs that I LOVE! I appreciate the care they take in the adjustability of their products. The chin straps are easily modified and I love being able to secure the back of the helmet to my head so I really feel as if the helmet is part of me. I rarely remove my helmet while biking and I find this helmet is so well ventilated that if I do take it off after a climb I barely notice a temperature change. It is lightweight. I feel completely protected by the design and even though appearances shouldn't matter, I don't look ridiculous in this helmet (at least myself, my dog and my man friend don't think so). I went with the same size I ordered for my ski helmet and it fits perfectly. A couple notes, the visor does not come off which is not an issue for me but may be for some people. Also, since I don't remove my helmet while climbing I cannot speak to the ease of carrying it on a pack. The rear head adjustment is wonderful but I would be interested in a boa system if available. I didn't research that component and it may not make a difference. I happen to love the boa system in my ski helmet it might be something to look for in future helmet purchases. Overall, love this helmet and highly recommend it! POC products are expensive but for a reason. I am insanely happy with all of their products I use!

I couldn't find anything saying it was removable, but the visor is adjustable.

Fits my head well

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I ordered this helmet without even trying it on or seeing it in person and was pleasantly surprised how well it fit my head and how comfortable it was. My head also fits specialized and fox helmets for reference.

I was actually surprised by the ventilation compared to other helmets that have more vents.

Things that can be improved:
1) The adjustment hardware on the straps below the ears are not "locked" in place after the initial setup, so it comes out of adjustment if your backpack hold your helmet by the straps when transporting.
2) I with the helmet strap release on the back of the helmet wasn't a push to release. There are times when going down rocky terrain where my backpack comes up and releases the strap making my helmet loose in the worse scenario. I've adjust this strap to fit higher on my head and made a couple of adjustments on my backpack, which has reduced this significantly, but there are times that it still happens.

Awesome fit!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have a tiny head and tend to have to wear youth sizes in headwear - which in the past has meant big clunky/ugly kids helmets. But the XS/S Trabec helmet is perfect - I even have room to make it smaller if need be. I have a Smith Vantage ski helmet in Small which also lists the size as 51-54cm but I can never get that helmet tight enough or get it to stay tight enough. The Trabec has a lot more adjustability and it stays tight once you find the size you want. The visor is great in the hot Utah sun and the holes keep you nice and cool since this allows for a lot of venting.
I definitely recommend this helmet!

Comfy & breathable .

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love this helmet. First it has way better air flow than what it looks like , second it fits well on my noggin ,light weight and comfortable. A piece of equipment you can ride in all day. My go to helmet a Troy Lee is now my spare as this will be my new go to for those singletrack days.

Safety + High visibility + Great fit

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Great helmet. Always been fan of POC helmets and technology and took the leap to purchase this helmet for road biking. Adjustable fit and high vis color make for an excellent biking helmet, along with the well known POC safety features. Very happy with purchase and would highly recommend to others. And, thanks Backcountry for another seamless shopping experience and speedy delivery.

Best bike helmet I've owned.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Fits my big noggin just right and tends to go unnoticed until I go over the bars and it saves me hospital bills

Style points!

Fits really well and looks super cool! I got the light green color, but it's more of a yellow.

So much better than I thought

My daughter was in desperate need of a new helmet and this was the right choice at a great price. She looks great in it, it's purple, and is a higher quality helmet than the one I use for mountain biking 5 days a week. 10/10 would buy again (still waiting for size large to go on clearance, hint, hint).

Light and airy...

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've had Fox and Giro helmets and like this the best. It's light, fits my small head (i'm a 5-7/8 and wear a medium). The visor is nice, but doesn't block any field of vision. I like that the back comes down a little further on the back of my head, but not enough to be noticed when riding. Glasses fit over or under chin straps easily. Easily adjusted and comfy. Looks decent as well. I'm a fan.

I was looking for a helmet that could protect my noggin while I was out playing in the trails ... mission accomplished! This helmet fits like a glove and does not move ... it is also so comfortable That I forget I am wearing it and when reaching into the car It also provides protection LOL ...

This is a quality product and worth every dollar!
