Better protection.

If you've ever felt that helmet designers placed too much attention on creating models that were too light and too aero for your tastes, then consider the POC Trabec Helmet. It's designed for mountain bikers or anyone who wants greater coverage over the ears and around the back of the head. The goal was to increase safety without sacrificing comfort and performance.

The Trabec fits more like a skateboard helmet, and this way it envelopes more of your skull. The fit can be custom tailored, and since it offers more coverage, the potential for movement when your head strikes the ground is less than smaller helmets with less coverage. Thinking about the way we wreck on trails, there is a greater chance for a variety of trajectory -- forwards, sideways, even backwards. When you get crazy, crazy things happen. So to protect your brain you need to cover your skull.

POC builds the Trabec Helmet as a single layer system. It has a polycarbonate shell that acts as the first defense against impact energy. It spreads the impact across a greater area so that the EPS liner can further absorb and soften the blow and protect your brain. Inside the foam core is an aramid net. Its purpose is to hold the foam together and resist chunking under massive, high speed impacts (like rebar in concrete). It's designed as a multi-impact system, so the helmet can survive more than just a few connections with the terra firma.

POC punches sixteen large vent holes in the shell, so you'll get plenty of airflow on hot days. An adjustable visor also helps on those sunny days to protect your eyes from glare and bright skies. A size adjustment system at the back allows you to snug it down for a perfect and wiggle free fit.

The POC Trabec Helmet is Black/grey and is available in three sizes -- X-Small/Small, Medium/Large, and X-Large/XX-Large. The pads inside are treated with Polygiene. It prevents bacterial growth, is eco-friendly, and is perfectly safe next to your skin. Since the bacteria can't grow on the pads, they'll last longer, require less cleaning, and smell way better.

  • Aramid-reinforced EPS core provides protection and greater durability than tradition cycling helmets
  • Extended side and rear coverage compared to traditional helmets for more complete head protection
  • 16 shaped vents guides air in, and around the helmet for excellent cooling and ventilation
  • Easy-to-adjust anatomic fit system holds helmet in place providing long-ride comfort
  • Polygiene anti-odor wipe included to prevent a foul smelling helmet
  • Adjustable visor helps to keep sun and mud from inhibiting vision

  • Aramid net inside EPS foam layer
  • Super-tough polycarbonate shell
  • 16 vent holes
  • Adjustable visor
  • Extended protection over typical helmets
  • Adjustable fit system

I love my Trabec!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've had my Trabec for about a year and a half now, and still love it. It's a comfortable fit, and I really like the style of it, plus it protects your cranium, while you look cool and feel good in it!

Mine is bright blue, which is true to color in the photos.

I really dig the way POC does their helmet sizing in general. As opposed to the S,M,L or S-M, L-XL that a lot of brands run, they offer a M-L, which is perfect for me, as I have an "extra medium" head that needs something in between most medium and large helmets.

I love my Trabec!

Quality Helmet

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

This was a gift for my son who rides the mount trails in Utah. Visibility to non-riders (hence the Bohrium Red color) and rider safety were my priorities. He has a POC ski helmet that provides great head protection and fit; it's great to find the same quality in a bike helmet. Ordered an X-LG and the fit is good; also like the adjustable piece in the back for a better fit, but wonder about durability.
Most of all, the customer service at Backcountry.com is excellent! (tired of spending hard earned dollars and not getting good service over all) Great shopping experience and thanks again folks at Backcountry.com!

A No Brainer

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Comfy, protective, fits great, bright colors! What more do you need! Can get a little warm in the summer months but far from a deal breaker. Would buy again.

Comfortable

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

lets face it, the main reason people hate their helmet is it doesn't fit right. The POC has an adjustable fit that makes this a non-issue. Get one of these, protect your head and have a good ride.

POC for my wife

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Shes very happy. Lightweight helmet and she loves the color! as always POC helmets super confortable and the most important protects your gray matter!!!

It Works!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Used the helmet for two years. Very comfortable and secure in all riding conditions. Walked away after a wreck from death wobble landing head first. Torn pectoral and bicep tendon but not even a headache worth mentioning. Great product. Bought another.

Awesome helmet!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This helmet fits great and is super light weight. I purchased this helmet after reading all the reviews and so far it has lived up to the hype. The one downside is that it doesn't breathe incredibly well, but that won't knock down my rating.

Unanswered Question

A coworker who's does a lot of biking recommends your brand helmet. I really like the Trabec and was hoping to purchase right away. My head is 23" exactly. Why does this not come my size. Or what size do you recommend.

Secure retention, sleek style.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Coming from an ill-fitting helmet a size too big, the Trabec was a near godsend by fitting perfectly around my mid-sized noggin (I ordered the medium/large). Its sleek and stylish demeanor is a bit flashy, but not overboard like others on the market. Plenty of ventilation keeps my head relatively cool on sweaty climbs and rides through exposed stretches. Lastly, the rear retention system allows for a secure fit, with one-handed adjustments while you're riding.

Great fit and lightweight.

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I purchased this helmet for my wife after finding out that most helmets in size small are still to big for her. Thankfully POC offers a S/XS and it did the trick!

Solid and Stylish Helmet

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've had this helmet for about a year now and it's served me very well. I (thankfully) upgraded from a cheaper helmet after a rough "endo" crash riding Bobsled in Salt Lake City, UT.
The fit and coverage of this helmet is very impressive! You can tackle just about any trail out there with this bad boy and feel confident while doing so.

Pros:
- Really rad design
- Fits very well and comfortably

Cons:
- A bit heavier than other helmets out there
- Even with 16 vents this helmet can be quite hot. (i.e Be ready to go through a few camelbacks if you're riding in the extreme heat)
- Runs a bit small - (SIZE UP)

Overall, I am a big fan of POC and their protective gear. If you going out for moderately long rides this is a great helmet for you. If you are looking for a lighter weight helmet that ventilates well in the midst of the summer heat you may want to check out some other options. To be honest, I am probably going to go with the Smith Forefront after this helmet.

i don't crash too often, but when i do i crash hard. This helmet has saved me from a few concussions. Has a comfortable fit, good weight. and i like the look and visor. Ive busted it off a few times but it just pops back into place.

covers all bases

bought this for a friend and she has loved it, lots of protection where needed fits small heads quite well! breathes great and doesnt dump all the sweat down on your face. only minor complaint is that the chin strap will loosen up on its own from time to time, so it does have to be adjusted every once and a while, but is it is well worth owning for the protection you receive

    Very protective!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I fell hard on a rock face at about 20mph. Broke C7 in my neck, chipped a tooth from my jaw slamming shut and sprained my wrist. ER doctors were amazed that I didn't have a concussion or any wounds to the face or head. This is a very well designed helmet offering great protection. I will probably buy another when I'm able to ride again.

    Very protective!

That is crazy William! Glad you were wearing this and it worked!

    Great helmet!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I MTB off-road/trails only and was looking for a helmet that better covered the back of my head. This one fit the bill and looks great. Comfortable with plenty of adjustments to ensure a snug fit. Super glad I made the investment.
I did need to exchange an L size for XL (my head size was right on the bubble between the two sizes).

    Best Helmet I've had

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is best fitting helmet I've had. I tried a few different brands and was always fidgeting with the adjustments every time I wore it. With the Trabec I set it and forget it. It ventilates well enough for me and looks nice too. I've had mine for a few years and luckily it's never taken any hard hits but if I needed to replace it I would get another.
