Description

Better protection.

If you've ever felt that helmet designers placed too much attention on creating models that were too light and too aero for your tastes, then consider the POC Trabec Helmet. It's designed for mountain bikers or anyone who wants greater coverage over the ears and around the back of the head. The goal was to increase safety without sacrificing comfort and performance.

The Trabec fits more like a skateboard helmet, and this way it envelopes more of your skull. The fit can be custom tailored, and since it offers more coverage, the potential for movement when your head strikes the ground is less than smaller helmets with less coverage. Thinking about the way we wreck on trails, there is a greater chance for a variety of trajectory -- forwards, sideways, even backwards. When you get crazy, crazy things happen. So to protect your brain you need to cover your skull.

POC builds the Trabec Helmet as a single layer system. It has a polycarbonate shell that acts as the first defense against impact energy. It spreads the impact across a greater area so that the EPS liner can further absorb and soften the blow and protect your brain. Inside the foam core is an aramid net. Its purpose is to hold the foam together and resist chunking under massive, high speed impacts (like rebar in concrete). It's designed as a multi-impact system, so the helmet can survive more than just a few connections with the terra firma.

POC punches sixteen large vent holes in the shell, so you'll get plenty of airflow on hot days. An adjustable visor also helps on those sunny days to protect your eyes from glare and bright skies. A size adjustment system at the back allows you to snug it down for a perfect and wiggle free fit.

The POC Trabec Helmet is Black/grey and is available in three sizes -- X-Small/Small, Medium/Large, and X-Large/XX-Large. The pads inside are treated with Polygiene. It prevents bacterial growth, is eco-friendly, and is perfectly safe next to your skin. Since the bacteria can't grow on the pads, they'll last longer, require less cleaning, and smell way better.

  • Aramid-reinforced EPS core provides protection and greater durability than tradition cycling helmets
  • Extended side and rear coverage compared to traditional helmets for more complete head protection
  • 16 shaped vents guides air in, and around the helmet for excellent cooling and ventilation
  • Easy-to-adjust anatomic fit system holds helmet in place providing long-ride comfort
  • Polygiene anti-odor wipe included to prevent a foul smelling helmet
  • Adjustable visor helps to keep sun and mud from inhibiting vision

Just wondering if you have this available in the safety green/yellow color?

Comfy & breathable .

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love this helmet. First it has way better air flow than what it looks like , second it fits well on my noggin ,light weight and comfortable. A piece of equipment you can ride in all day. My go to helmet a Troy Lee is now my spare as this will be my new go to for those singletrack days.

Safety + High visibility + Great fit

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Great helmet. Always been fan of POC helmets and technology and took the leap to purchase this helmet for road biking. Adjustable fit and high vis color make for an excellent biking helmet, along with the well known POC safety features. Very happy with purchase and would highly recommend to others. And, thanks Backcountry for another seamless shopping experience and speedy delivery.

Best bike helmet I've owned.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Fits my big noggin just right and tends to go unnoticed until I go over the bars and it saves me hospital bills

Style points!

Fits really well and looks super cool! I got the light green color, but it's more of a yellow.

Style points!

So much better than I thought

My daughter was in desperate need of a new helmet and this was the right choice at a great price. She looks great in it, it's purple, and is a higher quality helmet than the one I use for mountain biking 5 days a week. 10/10 would buy again (still waiting for size large to go on clearance, hint, hint).

Light and airy...

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've had Fox and Giro helmets and like this the best. It's light, fits my small head (i'm a 5-7/8 and wear a medium). The visor is nice, but doesn't block any field of vision. I like that the back comes down a little further on the back of my head, but not enough to be noticed when riding. Glasses fit over or under chin straps easily. Easily adjusted and comfy. Looks decent as well. I'm a fan.

HAPPY HEAD!

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I was looking for a helmet that could protect my noggin while I was out playing in the trails ... mission accomplished! This helmet fits like a glove and does not move ... it is also so comfortable That I forget I am wearing it and when reaching into the car It also provides protection LOL ...

This is a quality product and worth every dollar!

Impressive Helmet

It's light, fits well, comes in a variety of colors, and provides great protection for mountain biking. I like the visor a lot, the helmet adjusts well, and is designed for multiple impacts. I bought mine in Uranium Black but now kind of wish I'd gone for Black/Grey as I prefer a more matte look to the Uranium's shiny one. I see this helmet all over the place in Park City, POC must be doing something right.

It actually fits tiny heads!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have the hardest time finding a helmet that will actually fit my 21.5inch circumferance head. I've tried many different women's specific helmets in size S or XS and never found anything. I finally resorted to buying a Youth Large Bell Bike helmet (with a flashy ladybug pattern).

This helmet in the size XS/S cranks down small enough to fit my head! TODAY IS A GLORIOUS DAY!! Goodbye Ladybugs!
Granted, I do look like a total bobble-head, but this is the first adult helmet I've ever found that fits, so I don't give two figs.

Comfy too!

POC Trabec Helmet

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have a POC Synapsis 2.0 for snowboarding and now a POC Trabec for biking. This is a very solid helmet that feels really comfortable. It's more of a mtb helmet but I use it mainly for road biking with no problem. It's not the most aerodynamic helmet and also not the most ventilated helmet but you can feel you sacrificed a little for good protection of your valuable head. It looks better on some people than the other because of the shape (and color maybe). The only thing is I wish there's some reflective touch on it for better night visibility.

Generally I wear this while riding my bike! Took a selfie for the sake of showing it off. When I first tried it on it felt really really tight, even after adjusting (small and medium are one size). After a few wears it feels great, although I feel a bit like the Great Kazoo. Feels really solid and comfortable on/around my head.

Excellent Helmet

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've had this helmet for over a year and have put many miles on in it. That said, if it fits your head its amazing. I've had friends that have tried it on, but with rounder heads than mine (mine is oval) and they've found other helmets to fit better. Regarding Greg's comment below, this helmet can be hot, but is actually less hot than similar style helmets like the Xar, Xen, Fox, etc. I found that the vent below the lid (not visible in pics) actually makes a huge difference in pulling air through the helmet relative to others of the same ilk (heavier, more coverage designs).

great fit but hot

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I really like the way this fits my head, its very comfortable. It also seems to go low on the back of my head and protect my brains.

It is hot though, the ventilation is not that great compared to most XC helmets, but it does protect better. So I would take extra heat for extra protection.

Cool Lid

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Really like this helmet, I've only worn it 20 or so times but it fits great, keeps my head cool, and looks pretty awesome. Seems to offer adequate protection for this style helmet.

Great Helmet

This is my second Trabec. Lightweight, plenty of ventilation, and back of head protection all with an excellent fit. The sizing chart included is pretty much spot on.

anyone used this with goggles? do they integrate well and not slip in the back?

Responded on

Hey Harry,

Just a quick word of caution, we wouldn't advise you to use this bike helmet for skiing or snowboarding. (Not sure if you meant 'snow goggles' from your question). Because ski and snowboard crashes tend to happen at slower speeds than bike crashes, the helmets are engineered to comply with very different sets of standards.

Just a heads up there!
