Celebrate safety in style.

If you spent any time watching the Tour, you likely were drawn to the day-glo accoutrement wrapping the domes of a certain argyle-embracing team. While the POC Octal Limited Edition Helmet isn't technically categorized as AVIP, there's no doubt it'll get noticed out on the road. Between its subtle graphics lending a nod to POC's ten-year anniversary and team affiliation, its notably colorful ear straps, and the Octal's unabashedly unique profile, this helmet shines bright to stand out from the crowd as it protects your dome through all manner of ride.

While the more concussion-prone among the staff here at Competitive are keeping our fingers crossed for a MIPS version of this colorway, riders with a less robust concussion history can consider themselves well protected with the Octal's carefully chosen EPS foam, with a density strategically chosen to absorb impact forces if you do happen to hit the tarmac. It also provides increased coverage by extending over the back of the head and wrapping the temples without adding unnecessary weight. At just a claimed 250 grams, the Octal sits in line with other high-end helmets to rest lightly atop your head, ushering cooling airflow through its signature oversized vents.

Smaller, yet not less impressive details make life on the bike just that much easier. A low-profile click wheel retention strap, no doubt inspired by POC's snow sports helmets, provides micro-adjustable customization for a comfortable fit every time you clip in. Unassuming gripper panels at the sides of the outer temple vents comprise an Eye Garage, which helps ensure that your glasses don’t go anywhere when you stash them in your helmet, even on rough roads.

  • Stay safe with bright colorways in a nod to POC's history
  • Extended coverage to protect temples and back of the head
  • Easily adjustable on the fly
  • Eye Garage keeps glasses in place

That color though!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

After playing with aero helmets for the past few years, I started becoming disappointed with the level of air flow through the helmet, and sweat in my eyes.

Enter the Octal; I hate to say that one of my requisites for a lid is the color green, but hey, I'm vain. Not only does it fit superbly, it also looks the part; look good to go fast!

I am particularly impressed by the coverage and protection of the helmet, combined with the level of air flow; of everything out there right now, I would have to say that this is the best light-weight, ventilated helmet out there.

For 2016 this will be my road and mountain helmet; I may swap out to an aero version for some races, but this will be my stalwart.
