just what I wanted and needed

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

after every orthopedic woe I have, I get armor to prevent it happening again. After squishing my left ankle on Wasatch Crest, I got these. Prior to that, I was using some old soccer shin guards (which were surprisingly good). These are better. They are unobtrusive, look pretty much like socks, and don't get in the way of anything at all. My only gripe: the plastic disks are fairly small, so they don't necessarily sit over your malleoli. as such , you need to take some care when putting them on but it's pretty darn easy to get it right...

good but not in the way advertised

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

If you want to protect the balls of your ankle buy them , but if you expect anything else you should read below.

When I bought these I had in mind that they would stabilize my foot . In other words a foot brace like the Mcdavids ones . They're not that, not in any way. This will only protect the knobs on the sides of your foot- period. The description above states they're vpd and it stiffens upon impact. That couldn't be further from the truth. In fact I'll say it's a lie. There's a round hardpad for the ball of your ankle . The rest of it serves as a glorified ankle warmer . I will concede that the material is thick and that will soften some falls but it's not vpd . I had the vpd bone leg guard and I know how it feels. The material in this beefy"sock" stays soft when flexed and remains soft when I bang it on the wall. Also the picture above is wrong there's no big radioactive signs and it doesn't prominently display POC. I only still have it because before buying it I never realized how exposed the balls of my feet are and this product does protect that one part perfectly. I'm going to hold onto it because I never notice they're on, they are comfortable, they have some scratch protection, and I've had them long enough that I no longer feel like I can return them. Final belabored word- if you don't really think you need it then don't get it.

how high up do these come? I'm not so much...

how high up do these come? I'm not so much looking for a guard or knee/shin guard but something to stop from cut grass and everything tearing up my shins and calves and making me itch for the next couple days.

Best Answer

I measured them and they are 6'' no counting the elastic straps.

Nice protection, great fit

Combination of hard shell cups and some nice padding give good protection, would be better if padding went 360 degrees around the they are the front of the guard is not padded at all. Barely can notice them while on. Will recommend to anyone.

The best thing to happen since tall whips.

This will save the balls on your ankles, I have tried other brands and found that POC make the best by far. Others are hard plastic that just send the impacted into your ankle, they don't help that much on protecting. POC's absorb the impacted and stay in place. They are a little tight at first but wear in pretty fast. The only down side is that I wear ankle wraps and they don't fit well together, I wish that POC would make a ankle wrap joint guard combo. I just put them both on and throw down. If you plan on leaning any no footed trick then you will need these, don't waste your time with any other brand get the best.
