Item # POC0068

Description

Chicks dig teeth, wear a helmet.

The POC Cortex Flow helmet is a bit different than its Cortex DH big brother. First of all, it's a single-shell helmet. The exterior is made of fiberglass, and the single layer design necessitates a thicker shell. So it's a more durable shell than the carbon fiber on the Cortex DH, but it's also a heavier shell.

While it takes external design cues from the Cortex DH, the single shell means the vents channel air directly into the helmet, through holes in the shell that are aligned with a like pattern in the EPP liner. In reality, it ventilates better than the DH version because of this direct flow path for fresh air. The chinguard is positioned just right so that your face is protected well and yet, you can still breathe easily on hot days as you sprint from one berm to the next.

The Cortex Flow helmet is a great one and meets all the European and US safety standards. As mentioned, it vents better than its DH big brother. But the DH is a much safer helmet with its double layer construction and MIPS technology. If you've had a concussion or two, or a more serious brain injury and live for high speed excitement, do yourself a favor and go for the DH version of the Cortex Helmet.

The POC Cortex Flow helmet comes in Black and White and is available in M/L (55-57cm) and L/XL (58-60cm) sizes.

Sizing runs Large

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

So I usually wear a medium in many POC products most recently the Receptor Backcountry MIPS. I got this one in a medium on advice from a few sources and find they were all way off. This one does not run smaller like the Backcountry. This one is at least a full size larger than what will fit me. If your like me and in between the sizing chart POC has posted, then size down, you won't regret it. Aside from that hard to give an honest review until I have actually used the product on the hill... When I get the replacement I will fill y'all in!

So I own POCs receptor backcountry and find the m/L to fit awesome though I have a very small head. Any insight as to sizing on this model. Should I go with a small or go with the medium having a small head? Any insight would be much appreciated.

If you wear a M/L in the Receptor Backcountry the M/L of the Cortex Flow should be almost the exact same sizing.

Turned out to be Ginormous compared to my Backcoutntry. Definitely need to size down...

Stoked

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I'm really excited about picking up this helmet. Yeah its big, but I'm more concerned about surviving. The interior is plenty plush, and having options for the cheek guards ensured a proper fit.

Only recommendation is that you look at what color you're buying. Ordered Bohrium Red and in the picture it looks like a matte finish, but it is not. My fault, I could have just looked at the video and seen the reflection.

Very light

Very light, good fit, doesn't move on my head. Poc makes very great protection equipment and this is no different! love the blue!

Best helmet yet

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Been downhilling for 20 years. Started with the Foes Weasel. Have had at least 5 helmets over the years. This is the best so far. Great fit for me. Smallish head size the s/m fit perfectly. Light and comfortable.

Super stylish but not super plush

I am a fan of the simple color patterns and design characteristics, I used this helmet for two seasons until I took a massive hit to the head and had to retire it. I definitely recommend the helment and feel that it is one of the best looking helmets on the market. It breathes well and integrates with goggles nicely.

My only complaint is that it is not as soft and plush inside as other helmets in the same price range, which is surprising because I think the other POC helmets (the Trabac and the flow) are very plush. It is also pretty light weight compared to some of the other helmets I have used, the cheek pads do take a while to break in and always felt like they put unnecessary pressure on my face for the first 10 or so uses. But all in all I would say it is a great but not perfect helmet.

Couldn't ask for better!

This helmet is so comfortable. Its great for downhill riding and even rides that require some pedaling. Its super lightweight and is so easy to breath in. The face guard does come out a little far, but it isn't that noticeable. The helmet doesn't overheat much, but then again, I've only rode in winter weather. I love it. So glad i bought it!

The future

While this helmet does make you look a little like you just got off a space ship, it's low weight and comfort make up for the funky look. Best of all, this helmet vents better then the D2, and doesn't feel quite as claustrophobic. As long as you don't require flames on the side of your helmet, then this is a solid choice.

Nice upgrade

I moved up from Giro to 661 and now a POC. This is my favorite so far. Never was a fan of the TLD stuff and the POC line-up of stuff is top notch. This helmet is nothing less than awesome. Plenty of viewing space to see the trees coming at you, and the vents do there best to keep your melon cool. I've got my helmet paired up with the POC iris google and its a match made in heaven. If you are looking for a lightweight, no carbon lid go try one of these one, the are super comfy.

Nice upgrade

Lightweight & comfy

Great helmet... Light and decently breathable (it's still a full face, you're gonna get sweaty), with a great field of vision. Comes with 2 sets of ear pads to help you dial in the right fit.

Great Helmet

This may not be the burliest or lightest helmet out there but the fit and comfort are awesome. Everybody has a different shaped head and mine is a bit small for a guy and I'm wearing a m/l. With HucknRolls return policy you can always exchange sizes. I did a head over heals at Whistler last week landing on my head and it held up great as did my skull. I was so happy with the fit i ordered a poc receptor flow as well and its great too. The only reason I gave it 4 vs 5 stars was the list price but thanks to huck n Roll I got it on sale.

love it

This helmet is super sick! I love the simplicity of it with the focus on construction and safety. I got s/m size and comes with two cheek pad options which made the fit better to dial in. Its refreshing to see a company that doesn't plaster a million crazy graphics all over everything.

Impressed

Was unsure about this considering the level of other helmet makers. But after my Giro Remedy helmet started to get itchy, decided it was time for something different. I read a couple reviews about this helmets ventilation. Must say, it works great. Would also recommend getting the POC goggles system as well.
