No reservations.

The industry media, reviewers, and race results are all in agreement about the frame at the heart of Pivot's Mach 6 Carbon XT M8000 11 Speed Complete Mountain Bike. The publications claim it's a winner, the reviewers write that it's a winner, and professional podiums the world over silently affirm that it is, in fact, a winner.

When the bike was initially released, we concurred—with one caveat. The 10-speed drivetrain of the original 2015 Mach 6 XT models felt antiquated in this brave new world of 11 cogs. With the advent of Shimano's XT M8000 group, this reservation was effectively addressed, and the Mach 6's lightweight carbon fiber frame and enduro-tuned DW-Link suspension provide everything that you could ask for to haul the mail on gnarly trails.

Other than the build kit, the Mach 6 is relatively unchanged in the new year, so the myriad benefits over other manufacturers' rush-to-production 27.5in all-mountain bikes are all intact. Given the length of the list, we'll only take the time to focus on a few elements of the Mach 6's geometry that really set it apart from the also-rans. First, its bottom bracket height is low, settling the center of gravity within the rolling stock (like 29ers) and not on top (like 26ers and rush-job 27.5s). Second, the top tube is around an inch longer and the chainstays are around a half-inch shorter than comparable machines, so you'll enjoy all the benefits in stability and handling of the larger frame/short stem/wide bar trend in enduro bikes without the usual penalty of a longer wheelbase.

The key to this win/win/win situation is Pivot's use of a new clevis to connect the rear shock to the rear triangle. This keeps the suspension linkage compact to avoid seat tube interference, so your stays stay stubby. It also eliminates the failure-prone rear shock bushing while taking full advantage of the DW-Link suspension's ability to balance travel with chain tension for a consistent, stable pedaling platform that's anti-squat, climbs like a goat, and descends with authority. A specially-tuned FOX DPS Kashima shock guarantees that the Mach 6's two carbon triangles will play nicely together while keeping unruly changes in grade and terrain in check with its three-position damper toggling.

  • An enduro sled with DH pedigree
  • 6in of DW-Link suspension set the standard for smooth travel
  • Balances travel and chain tension to keep speed up over terrain
  • Low BB height centers weight for stability
  • Long cockpit and short stays for dicing terrain
  • Carbon fiber frame is stiff and surprisingly resilient
  • Shimano's latest M8000 drivetrain combines XTR finesse with XT scrappiness

I think the pictures show a top pull front derailleur but the specs list the newer side swing type. Which one actually comes on the 2x?

looks like we are sold out of mediums at this time however we do have a few medium frames left we could do a similar build on. Contact me direct if interested.

Does this bike come with a dropper seat post? I don't see it listed in the spec.

No, it comes with a standard carbon post. Just bought this exact bike a few weeks ago.

    FUN bike!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I spent an afternoon on the Mach 6 in Salt Lake City's popular Corner Canyon. Plain and simple, this bike is FUN! it descends with with best out there and holds it's own on the climbs. My lack of fitness on this particular afternoon was a much bigger issue that the Mach 6's climbing ability. This particular build, with new XT 8000 is a tremendous value. Shred, climb, air, the Mach 6 is really special. Super fun for riders who like to rip. Give me a shout and we can go over the details. 801-204-4557 btowery@backcountry.com

I was looking at the 2015 pivot Mach 6. I noticed that it comes in 1 by and 2 by. What is the weight difference? How much do these bikes weigh? Do they come assembled?
    Laurie

Hi Laurie! The difference between 1x and 2x is that the 2x gives you a front derailleur and a wider gear range. The 1x nixes the front derailleur and simplifies your gear choices and eliminates duplicate gearing. For weight, this build comes in around 29 lbs. We ship the bike almost ready to ride. We'll build it, tune it and make sure it's ready to go. All you'll need to do is put on the wheels, handlebar, seatpost and pedals. Give me a shout and we can go over more details. This is a great bike! 801-204-4557 btowery@backcountry.com

I've owned this bike for a couple years and love it (riding in SoCal). I got the weight down to 27.5lbs by swapping out the stock wheels - which I nearly taco'd - and putting in Industry Nine trail wheels. The build on my bike is sram XO 1x.

    Fresh

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Falling in love is easy with this fresh bike!
The Pivot Mach is one rowdy ride.
With 160mm in the front and 155mm in the rear, it eats up the trail, and climbs surprisingly well.
The overall frame geometry feels stable and very frisky, and with the longer wheelbase this Mach 6 is an Enduro animal.
DW Suspension makes this bike the perfect Utah/Colorado machine, and a total joy on the lifts.
