Like a bird with a tailwind.

Building on the success of its predecessor, the 2016 Pivot Mach 6 Carbon X01 Complete Mountain Bike features a handful of updates inspired by Pivot's downhill firebird, the Phoenix, to bring it in line with the trend towards bigger, slacker, and more DH-inspired enduro profiles. It comes outfitted with a SRAM X01 one-by drivetrain, powerful SRAM Guide RS hydraulic brakes, plush Fox suspension package, and a smooth rolling set of DT Spline hoops.

The frame's updates are focused primarily in the rear triangle, where the Phoenix's influence is most apparent. The double wishbone rear triangle is clearly carrying some downhill DNA, and it's combined with an ambitious upper linkage design that's 40% wider and engages the frame with larger bearings. Pivot continues the oversized trend in the rear axle with the new Boost 148mm standard, ushering the Mach 6 into the modern era of enduro, where tech seems to always be straddling the lines between trail riding and gravity. The cumulative effect of these changes is a claimed 150% increase in rear triangle stiffness, meaning that — though the new Mach 6 leaves a wide, DH footprint — it still climbs more like a four-inch XC bike.

The DW-Link suspension design controlling the Mach 6's six-inches of travel also does its part to maintain a secure climbing hold on rocky trails. Its anti-squat tendencies maintain a firm pedaling platform while cleaning terrain-riddled cruxes or picking lines with abandon across trail furniture. That responsiveness is matched on the opposite end of travel with a square-edge capacity that feels virtually bottomless, so time saved on the climbs isn't lost because of overly cautious descending.

Pivot's hollow-core internal molding process returns unchanged for uniform, controlled wall thicknesses and material distribution. This process virtually eliminates inconsistencies and resin pooling, increasing structural integrity while targeting areas for weight loss. The frame's slacked-out geometry and stubby, 17in chainstays mean it's slack enough to challenge lines across enduro rock gardens but nimble enough to pick its way through eight-inch terrain — all while sticking climbs and roosting berms with an eagerness that begs to be pushed to the ragged edge of control.

Is this bike going on sale any time soon?

Boost

Pivot is sending these bikes out with a boost rear and non boost fork for the time being as the Fox 36 is not available in boost yet. However-we can custom build this bike in a full boost with a Rockshox Pike. Having a boost front and rear maximizes the benefits of this new technology and highly recommended.Contact me direct if you need help with a build or quote.

How much would it cost me if you upgrade this bike like what you recommend? And, is there any sales event going on for Memorial Day? Particularly on this brand?

Hi Charlie....email me direct at wbranham@competitivecyclist.com or 801-204-4542 and I can send you over a quote.

    My 2nd Mach 6

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The original Mach 6 was so bomb that I couldn't help myself... I had to order the new one. The improvements for me were mainly component based, getting the full Fox 36 Factory fork, X01, and adding an upgrade to the carbon DT Swiss XMC rims. What a dream.

Before taking it on a single trail, I took a bit of a leap of faith and flew it to Granada, Spain to have some fun on the Sierra Nevada just before winter set in. How about 9000 ft of climbing (on a winding paved road no less) for 9000 ft of back country descent? Comfortable as the day is long, she didn't let me down! Super stable and confidence inspiring at high speed, despite not being the longest wheelbase out there in the enduro segment, yet also game for the most technical of climbing. Recently put it through it's paces in my first enduro race, and the bike definitely wanted to perform beyond my physical capabilities.

Gen 2 of an Enduro Favorite!

I’m very excited about the second generation of this enduro classic. It’s designed for riders looking to hammer the trails both up and down on a super versatile, dynamic trail bike. A few highlights on handling that sets it apart:
The DW Link suspension that was specifically designed for 6.1 inches of rear wheel travel which makes for an ultra-efficient climber, paired with the “hollow box” ,high compression carbon frame which is light and stiff. You can effectively assault any climb with confidence and vigor.
With impressively short chain stays and a long front end- paired with a short stem makes for a feel as if it were cornering on rails which allows you to dive hard and fast around even the most twitchy trails. It has a very even weight disbursement and the lower bottom bracket keeps your center of gravity low making it handle like a dream. Adding to its impressive handling is the new boost standard making the bike very, very laterally stiff. The balanced geometry makes for a very dynamic descender as well rounding out this impressive bike.
These are just a few of the characteristics of this awesome ride from an awesome company.Pivot knows what it means to be a mtn biker and you will be a believer with your first ride. If you have the means I highly recommend picking one up.
If you have specific questions or need help configuring this bike do not hesitate to contact me direct.
