Clocking in as one of the lightest full-suspension whips Pivot has ever released, the 2016 Pivot Mach 4 Carbon XT/XTR Pro Complete Mountain Bike features blazing fast responsiveness, sure handling, and a dose of tracking confidence to roll roughshod over rough trails with unwavering accuracy. Outfitted with a plush FOX shock, a Shimano XT/XTR one-by drivetrain, Shimano XT 8000 hydraulic disc brakes, and a set of smooth spinning DT Spline hoops wrapped in Maxxis Ardent tires, this bike is built to fly over technical courses and challenging terrain.
One of the more noticeable characteristics of the Mach 4 Carbon is its low-slung top tube, which yields the best standover clearance you’ll find on a bit with 27.5’in wheels. This shaping accommodates a wide range of rider heights and allows exceptional space for shifting positions and lean angles out on the trail without worries of cracking a knee on the top tube.
The Mach 4 features the proven DW-Link suspension design. Its 115mm of smooth travel doesn't counteract pedaling forces, affording race-worthy acceleration and consistent contact with the trail. Stand up and stomp on the pedals and you’ll be amazed at the grip you get on loose dirt. Pivot worked closely with Fox on the Float Kashima shock tune, so the Mach 4's suspension and shock combine to provide travel that’s responsive, predictable, and uses every available millimeter. As with prior iterations of the legendary Mach 4, you’ll feel like you’re riding a bike with more travel.
The Mach 4 Carbon comes with full-length internal cable routing, including internal routing for a dropper post to keep everything tidy and quiet. This frame is capped off with a FOX 34 Factory Kashima fork for increased confidence and versatility on rough trails. The longer fork slackens the ride a bit, but with DW-Link suspension in back, the Mach 4 Carbon rides high in its travel so you won’t experience any front-end wandering.
With future upgrade possibilities in mind, the Pivot Mach 4 Carbon is one of the first production frames to come equipped for Shimano Di2, featuring a battery port ingeniously tucked into the frame, accessible via a securely covered hole in the downtube. With the recent release of XTR Di2 and rumors of more off-road electronic shifting options on the way, Pivot's forward thinking makes the Mach 4 Carbon an ideal choice for those of us looking for a frame that will stand the test of time and be compatible with future shifting trends.
