Full throttle.

It'd be hard to get any more cross-country than a Les 29 Carbon X01 with SRAM, FOX, and DT teaming up to keep things light and fast. And, while the Complete Mountain Bike build is a contributing factor to this, Pivot's extensive research, design, and exclusive technology is the primary reason.

First off, it weighs less than 2.5lbs. That's light, and it wouldn't be possible without Pivot's hollow-box, high-compression internal molding technology -- the same process that's used to create the Les' signature shape. This allows for greater compaction and smoother internal walls in order to produce a lighter, stronger, and highly optimized frame. The top tube and seatstays are flattened compared to the large down tube, creating a leaf-spring-like-motion to dampen the ride. This shape, however, is wider along the Z-axis, so it won't flex side-to-side while sprinting.

Adding to the ride quality are stout chainstays that have been mated to a 92mm PressFit bottom bracket. It's here that you'll find SRAM's X01 GXP with a 30t ring that spins a 10-42t X01 cassette. These ratios perfectly match the larger diameter wheels while optimizing clearance for log crossings. On the opposite end of the chainstays, you'll find Pivot's Swinger adjustable dropout system with a 12x142mm thru-axle tying everything together.

The Swinger dropout allows you to lengthen the Les' short, 17.1-inch chainstays in order to adjust handling characteristics. Or, if you've the gumption, to drop the gears for a single-speed setup. At the front end of the Les, a tapered head tube is graced with FOX's 32 FLOAT 29 FIT CTD Trail Adjust with Kashima. This gives the Les a 69.5 degree head tube angle -- a welcome break from the steep, traditional angles of race bikes.

race ready

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I am a hard tail guy so I can appreciate a really good one and Pivot does it about as good as they get. Stiff enough that it winds up quick even for a 29 er, but still rides very very smooth through the XC loops I did. I rode an X01 set up that was rock solid and even though I rode on some so/so easton wheels it still felt more than capable. I would recommend pairing with some stans or reynolds carbon wheels. If you have questions or want comparisons to others I've ridden feel free to email me at

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have been using this super sweet bike to train and race on for quite some time now. I have raced and ridden this bike in everything from the driest/dusty conditions to super muddy, sloppy messes. It performs like it is nothing in every condition you could put it through. I love how light and responsive it is up the climbs and out of the tight, twisty corners of some courses. Even down the sketchiest of downhills it flows super smooth. Not to mention how fantastic it looks!! Definitely can help you get up to that top step at the races!

The Bike of Choice

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

After racing a few different bike brands, I can say that this Pivot LES is a killer of a bike. Climbs like the best of XC bikes and rips the DH like no other. With the short chain stay and slack head tube this bike corners amazingly! If how the bike rides is not enough, just the looks of this beast will make you want it!

The Definition of Fast

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

After a month of racing and fast riding, I can truly say that I have fallen in love with the Les. The short chain stays and relatively slack head angle make the bike incredibly agile and trail worthy. Laterally, the bike is very stiff, yet when the trail gets rough the bike is very smooth. The paint scheme and internal routing only aid in making the bike look as good as it rides. If you're looking for an efficient and confidence inspiring hardtail, this is your bike.

Attention Paid to Every Detail

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This bike is by far the best hard tail that I have ever ridden. The frame is incredibly stiff and efficient on the climbs, while extremely absorbent on the descents at the same time. This is the first hard tail that I have ever ridden where it is possible to easily sit down and pedal through slightly downhill technical sections and cruise through them with no problems. This bike is worth a try for every type of rider from DH to road because this bike is pretty much a do it all machine in one surprisingly light and simply elegant design!

Bike lust at its best

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I can't even begin to explain the how well this bike flows on the trails. This bike is stiffer than the average hard-tail but can absorb the shock of the rocky decent's without rattling my teeth out. It has very clean cable routing and the matte black finish looks "oh so good". It inspires confidence on technical trails and the bikes forgiving nature allows me to recover from mistakes quickly and easily, which is good when your chasing podiums!

Incredibly well thought out

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Every aspect of this bike has been meticulously planned and executed to create an incredibly smooth and playful ride that comes in a race winning package. As always, sram's XO1 drivetrain works flawlessly and reliably and is complimented nicely by the Fox float 32 fork. This is my go-to hard tail and I think it will continue to be for the near future.

Racing rocket

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is the hard-tail to get. Due to its slacker head-tube angle and short chain stays it descends super precisely and fast. Not only is it extremely light but it also feels composed on all types of terrain. The bike is stiff but compliant at the same time. If you chose to race single speed the dropouts are really easy to convert. If you are looking for a new bike the Pivot LES 29 is the bike to get!!!

Pure Cross Country Race Machine

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I had the opportunity to ride this bike recently and have great initial impressions. The bike was very compliant on the rough trails of Moab due to the oversize down tube and chain stays and the oval shaped top tube and seat stays. The swinger dropout system is also a nice feature making it easy to set up single speed. The bike was also very light making it extremely agile on the trail. Great all around hard tail for sure. A Pivot without a Pivot!
