Train smarter.

Pioneer spent the past three years working with pros to continuously improve upon its first power meter offering, testing its technology with riders who depend on reliable, accurate measurement systems. The latest version, the Shimano Ultegra 6800 Single Leg Powermeter Crank Arm, provides you with an efficient way to chart your performance and improve upon your training whether you're looking to podium in your next tri or dominate the local time trial series. Rather than requiring you to invest next month's mortgage to gain access to power data, Pioneer offers the Single Leg model as a more affordable introduction. As your training and ambitions progress, you can easily upgrade to Pioneer's complete power meter setup to track more detailed, in-depth measurements, but the single leg power meter will tell you everything you need to get started.

This system uses dual strain gauges to measure pedaling force, direction, and overall efficiency as you ride, and it's right on par with industry standards at +/-2% accuracy. The power meter unit has a sleek profile on the inside of the crank arm, and the whole system only adds a claimed 241g to your frame. As you pedal, the sensors capture 12 points of rotation at 30-degree intervals, taking a measurement 16 times at each point to ensure accuracy. As you're glancing down at the power meter mid-climb, this information shows up on your head unit under the heading "pedaling efficiency," which is a combination of force measurements from each of the 12 points that together give the total power output per rotation. By recording information at multiple points, Pioneer is able to deliver a single accurate measurement that takes the entire pedal stroke into consideration.

Racing in a place with significant temperature or elevation fluctuations can wreak havoc on your power meter. Pioneer knows how frustrating it is to have to re-zero your device on-course how tough it is to recover momentum lost while you freewheel to let the unit zero. To address this common problem, it developed Zero Point Calibration with Active Temperature Memory Adjustment for its power meters. Essentially, the technology allows the power meter to anticipate and adapt quickly to environmental changes so that you don't lose access to accurate data when you need it most.

The power meter is also compatible with ANT+, which makes using it with your favorite fitness apps or other ANT+ compatible devices simple. To further analyze each of the 12 force vectors individually and gain access to Pioneer's new HDPower Metrics and Cyclo Sphere program, you can add the Pioneer cycling computer to your setup, and down the road, you have the option of gaining dual leg data by adding a right-side power meter.
