An Italian in Paris.

The Pinarello Paris Frameset is rarely discussed without first making mention of Pinarello's flagship Dogma. Unsurprising, since so much of Pinarello's industry-leading innovation has resulted into a lineage of sorts, trickling down from the venerable Dogma. The unique asymmetrical design and ride quality is a standard all its own. Though slightly evolved for 2012, the Paris is technically still the first heir to the throne. But for all intents and purposes, with a top-tier gruppo like 2012 SRAM Red or Campagnolo Super Record 11, the Paris is still a top-tier bicycle.

The Paris was introduced to the cycling world in 2009 as a slightly de-tuned, still asymmetrical 'little brother' to the flagship Dogma, and lauded as a successor to the award-winning Prince. But since that inception, the Paris has evolved a great deal on its own, growing comfortable in its 50HM1.5k carbon fiber skin and stepping out of the Dogma's purebred racing shadow. It offers the same race-caliber stiffness and punchy response, but in a slightly more relaxed geometry befitting a wider range of riding styles. If the Dogma 2 is a racer's grail bike, the Paris could be considered the grail bike of a lifetime enthusiast -- a dream to ride wherever and however you choose.

Pinarello Paris Carbon DetailThe Pinarello SOE (Simulation, Optimize, Evolution) engineering process constantly seeks to balance drivetrain input through asymmetrical frame design. That development strategy continues in the new Paris, which sees a number of balance enhancements over its previous iteration. Foremost, the new Onda FPK1 fork features a more dramatically tapered 1 1/8in -1 1/2in steerer tube (widened from the previous model’s fork, which tapered only to 1 1/4in). Further, the downtube is now asymmetrical as well, which lends a more graceful ride quality and a greater level of stiffness and stability. That stiffness and stability translate to greater steering precision and better tracking at high speeds. All of the cables are routed internally now as well, providing a smoother surface for air to flow over, and cleaning up the gorgeous frame aesthetic, while costing nothing in shift performance. To compare the two directly, the Paris uses that 50HM1.5k Toray carbon fiber, while the Dogma2 uses a slightly denser 60HM1K, which adds around 80 grams to the overall frame weight, but subtracts a fair amount from the price tag.

The Pinarello Paris Frameset is a bicycle that brings it all to the table. It rides stiffer and more confident than ever, but without compromising the legendary all-day ride quality and pedigree of its predecessors. The included seat post is the MOst Tail C-Max 1k, a full carbon post with aluminum clamping hardware, and a two-bolt clamp. The Pinarello Paris Frameset is available in 10 sizes between 44cm and 59.5cm. Choose from Black On Black, Red/white/black, White/red, and White/red/black. It requires the use of a braze-on front derailleur and an Italian-threaded bottom bracket.
